An aspiring presiding member of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly has appealed to assembly members to cooperate with their chief executives for accelerated development.
Mr Joseph Korto in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Tema, said petty squabbles, undermining and non cooperation have rendered many assemblies incapable of harnessing their potential for development.
According to him, both the assembly member and the chief executive should be aware of the fact that although their roles have been cut for them they need to sacrifice their turf wars for compromise in all official dealings.
“I am not saying that someone should condone wrong doing but that sometimes even semantics and petty issues could stall projects and programmes which are crucial to the development of communities.”
He called for intensive orientation of assembly members for them to appreciate the work of the assemblies, duties and responsibilities, national and community aspirations as well as patriotism.
Mr Korto, who is the Assembly member of the Low Cost Electoral Area, advised assembly members to desist from peddling falsehood about their chief executives adding: “Te work of the assembly is development oriented and non partisan.”
