More than 10 people including a police officer were hurt, some badly, following an explosion at a quarry at Sekyikrom near Nsawam.
The injured, many of them workers of the Duabo Quarry Limited, are receiving treatment at the Nsawam Government Hospital.
So powerful was the blast that about 50 houses at three nearby communities - Sakyikrom, Adoagyiri and Saabon Zongo, collapsed.
Terrified residents in the area had now sought refuge at Nsawam.
The blast is suspected to have been caused by an explosive at the company’s store house.
The Nsawam Police Commander, Sam Magnus, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), that a team of police officers and fire fighters were already on the ground to control the situation.
