The Mankranso Police are investigating the circumstances under which two Catholic priests were assaulted by a machoman at Mankranso last Saturday.
The suspect, identified as Sani Mohammed, is currently on police enquiry bail, while the victims, Rev. Father Anthony Awuah Boateng and Rev. Father Daniel Afum, are currently on admission at the St Edward Hospital and the Mankranso Government Hospital, respectively.
Mohammed, who is said to have won TV3's Ghana's Most Strongest contest in 2013, is alleged to have assaulted the two Catholic priests at Adugyama in the Ahafo Ano South District in the Ashanti Region.
He is said to have subjected Rev. Father Boateng to severe beatings and inflicted machete wounds on Rev. Father Afum.
Briefing
The Mankranso District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr John Adusei, told the Daily Graphic that around 5 p.m. last Saturday, police received information about an incident of assault at Adugyama.
He said he and two policemen rushed to Adugyama to arrest the suspect.
Meanwhile, the suspect has been granted bail, while police investigations are ongoing.
According to the police, Rev. Fr Boateng was travelling from Adugyama to Biemso Number Two in his pick-up last Saturday when Mohammed, who was riding a motorbike, crossed him.
The priest, who was infuriated, is said to have pulled up and advised the suspect not to ride carelessly next time, but Mohammed became offended.
When Rev. Fr Boateng was driving back to Adugyama, the suspect chased him on his motorbike to the mission house where he assaulted the priest.
According to the police, when the victim’s colleague, Father Afum, intervened to calm nerves, the suspect vented his spleen on him and inflicted machete wounds on him.
Both priests were rushed to hospital for medical attention.
