There is deafening silence in some parts of the Volta Region following the election of Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), according to several media reports.
While the Ashanti Region, the stronghold of the NPP, erupted in joy after the Electoral Commissioner, Madam Charlotte Osei, declared Akufo-Addo, the president-elect of Ghana.
There were, however, pockets of celebration by a few supporters of Akufo-Addo in Ho, the Volta Regional capital.
In a press conference held at about 8:47 pm on Friday, Madam Osei said:
“On the basis of the foregoing figures and by the power vested in me as the Electoral Commissioner of and the Returning Officer of the presidential election, it is my duty and privilege to declare Nana Akufo-Addo as the president-elect of Ghana.”
Akufo-Addo, who was contesting his third straight presidential election, secured 5,716,026 votes, representing 53.85 percent, to beat Mahama, who managed 4,713,277 votes, which represented 44.40 per cent.
The Progressive People’s (PPP) Candidate, Papa Kwesi Nduom, had 105,682 votes ( 1%). The Conventions Peoples Congress (CPP) candidate, Ivor Greenstreet, got 25,395 (0.24%). Nana Konadu Rawlings of the National Democratic Party (NDP) had 16,878 (0.16%). Independent Candidate Jacob Osei Yeboah also secured 15,879 votes.
In Accra and other towns in the country, supporters of the NPP have also taken to the streets in wild jubilation.
There was deafening blaring of cars horns and vuvuzelas on the streets of Accra, Kumasi and other major cities, as the change millions of Ghanaians had sought desperately for eight years finally came home.

Koku Anyidoho and co for ghanapoliticsonline, who cares about you losers? Volta region did a fantastic job by allowing only Ghanaians to vote,I don't think you are in politics for the wellbeing of the people but a bitter agenda of tribalism. I'm glad the people found in you Koku Anyidoho and those ministers from the Volta region as taking them for granted to enrich yourselves. Koku Anyidoho your powers that be have come to an end,Ghanaians all over have spoken and chosen who should keep their funds so find something profitable to do. My prayer to God is never again shall he allow ndc to be in power any more. Ghanaians are tired of them.
The marriage is broken. The people of volta have filed for divorce
OUR BROTHERS AND SISTER FROM VOLTA WAS TRYING TO TELL MEMBERS AND COMMUNICATION TEAM OF N.D.C THAT THEY CAN NOT TAKE THEM FOR GRANTED .IS A LESSON TO ALL POLITICAL PARTIES WHO TAKE AS FOR GRANTED . LONG LEAVE GHANA
Hahahaaaaaa!
This is no news.
the volta region and Ashanti region are Ghana's Pillars of democracy. if either party begins to loose votes on a massive scale in either region, the other party that won might become too powerful. the mahama administration made a huge a mistake taking V/R for granted like others before them. can't afford to be one party state especially under the leadership of either NDC or NPP.
