The Canadian government is set to inject a total of 120m dollars (125 million Canadian Dollars) into the Planting For Food and Jobs initiative being spearheaded by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
Agreement for the release of the grant has consequently been signed by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta on behalf of Ghana while the Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Ms Heather Anne Cameron on behalf of her country.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Chief of Staff, Mrs. Frema Opare Addo and the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
The initiative forms part of the Modernizing Agriculture in Ghana (MAG) Project, which forms part of efforts by government to reverse the declining growth of the agric sector over the past eight years.
The Planting For Food and Jobs is a new policy geared towards the modernization of Ghana’s agriculture and ensure food security for the country.
The programme will be operating under five main components; supply of improved seedlings, provision of fertilizers, extension services, marketing for produce and e-agriculture.
The Canadian High Commissioner, Ms Anne Cameron agreed to support the programme after series of meetings with Ghana’s Minister of Food and Agriculture.
Briefing the media on the agreement, Dr. Afriyie Akoto said the amount will be released in five tranches over the next five years and will go into two main components of the programme; purchasing and supply of improved seedlings as well as extension services support for beneficiary farmers to be captured under the initiative.
He added that other development partners, including the Korean and Israeli governments have also pledged to support the programme which is expected to take off in the coming crop season.

Nana, God bless you oooo!!!! Africa, we can plant everything.
please Mr Minister, buying improved seedlings without water you will not improve agriculture. I want advice that in your program ensure that the farmers also are able to maintain constant supply of water by providing necessary irrigated land other than that you are just repeating the NDC's SADA Mistake. Mark my words! No water don,t waist donors money.
This is what i call GOVERNANCE...damn!Everything is just planned and so organised.Ghana sure ll work again by the Grace of God.Ur Excellency...toaso saaa ma yen.y3p3 nea woy3 no!!
ITS A NICE OPPORTUNITY FOR THE YOUTH, HOW CAN WE GET ACCES TO THIS OPPORTUNITY. I NEED SOME OF THESE OPPORTUNITIES FOR MY FARMERS.
Thank you nana. Am leaving public service to take advantage of this program. Agriculture is indeed the choice. Nana addo will be better president than mahama. Ghana youth pls take advantageooooo
@kol baby, you are such a ***barred word*** human being if you think the youth of today are above agriculture. Yet you will travel abroad to pluck tomatoes for daily wage. You are just visionless. God bless our homeland Ghana
You see, with a good leadership the international community comes in to assist but the monies must be used for the purpose but should not end up in somebody's pocket just like it happened with the NDC.
Please NPP people, just do the work, for that is what is required of you. Allow NDC to do what they know best---propaganda. The Special Prosecutor will deal with them at the right time. It is obvious that Ndc don't know anything about governance. They only come to create, loot and share, leading us into HIPIC or Bailout conditions. Special Prosecutor has plans for them. During that time , let them complain of witch-hunting, and we would not mind them
Npp we are tired of you...u are the angels;so be it....we will come back 2020 to loot all that u work for...look at the massive infrastructural works mhama did yet ungrateful Ghanaian mammals voted us out...nana addo has failed
2020 ndc will get 50 parliamentary seats and less than 3 million votes mark it on the wall. In every advanced world the main target was agriculture and lazy ndc footsoldiers think government is there to share money, lie, lie even the Bible says the hands that are not working must not eat so if ndc footsoldiers don't want to work who cares?go and sleep in your HQs but Ghanaians who are serious about the forward match of our country will work hard to build Ghana after all NPP didn't come because of the ndc but the Ghanaian people and a word of caution to you ndc kriminals if you try your Ataa Ayi tartics you will regret coming to this world, the Ghana police will be well equipped to crush you. Nobody is going to play with you, your evil plans will hit a snag and you will find yourselves miserable. Ghanaians don't like you and will never vote for you so never think of coming back bring John mahama from opposition and he will lose potooo even in power he couldn't tackle how much more in opposition. THI*VES thinking of coming back to lo*t the more 'TAFIAKWA' not in Ghana. 2020 only 1 region for the ndc hahahahahaha.
