The Member of Parliament for the Asawase Constituency in the Ashanti region, Hon. Mubarak Muntaka has called on Ghanaians and Africans to boycott South African products and its companies due to the xenophobic attacks on foreigners in that country.
Xenophobic attacks in South Africa have heightened over the last few days. Nigerians, Ghanaians and other African nationals have complained of rising violence against them.
The attackers accuse the foreigners of taking over their jobs and increasing crimes in their neighborhoods.
On Friday, South African police used rubber bullets, tear gas and water cannon to try and disperse anti-immigrant protesters in the capital, Pretoria. According to Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, no Ghanaian has been killed in the attacks in the rainbow nation so far.
However, speaking on the floor of Parliament Friday, Hon. Muntaka stated that Ghanaians must boycott all South African products and companies to send a signal to that country.
“I think the time has come for the African people to unite around this to at least, not to violently also attack their properties in our country, not to violently attack their citizens in our country but to boycott their products.
“If we begin to boycott every South African product they will begin to feel the heat home and that will let them know that we will not countenance it,” Hon. Muntaka said.

How can we develop as a continent with all this issues. It is only by inter trading that we can be saved from poverty. We must resolve our differences and strive for the betterment of the people africa ,that when prosperity shall be ours. The mp may be right in his statement, but has he considered the problem s the people of south Africa have with their government and r transferring it on foreigners. Not long ago Ghana started having similar issues with Nigerian traders in the country, how was it resolved.Nigeria is a big market ,it is up to us to position ourselves to make the maximum out of their market. The south African problem has been flaring up over and over ,it is for us to help them to solve it.Their current president is not helping out,he is corrupt using millions to renovate his house whiles the commoners suffer ,for how long will it take some African leaders to have their eyes open. They are too corrupt and ***barred word***.
Perfect CALL
Agreed, lets start with M T N and D S TV,now,I wish South Africa were still under white rule, almost all black African states contributed in no small way for the black South Africans to regain their freedom, today they turn round and call fellow black Africans as foreigners, meanwhile the very whites who saw and still see them as second class citizens are walking the streets of South Africa free.I remember in the 1980,s Ghana,s GBC radio used to play only black south African tunes from 2.00pm to 3.00pm. I cant think far,the black south African man should be ashamed of himself, that is if they know what "SHAME" means. If i had the power i will support the whites to recolonize south Africa,i prefer a goat as having much more value to a black south African, tweeeaaaaa
is a good call,let s all support.
