If there is anybody out there who doubts the existence of abject poverty in Ghana, a short visit to Tom Krom would immediately renew and solve that contemplation quickly.
Residents of Tom Krom, a suburb of Nsawam in the Eastern Region constantly live in miserable, unfortunate and humiliating conditions.
With no electricity to depend on, hygienic water to drink, schools to educate their wards and clinic to treat farmers who are mostly bitten by snakes, living in the area makes life a sad thing to enjoy constantly.
Water is life but in Tom Krom, parents and children have to walk about five miles to access unhygienic water to fill their pots at home. It is for this reason that Nhyiramma Foundation with support from OmniBank has constructed and handed over a borehole to the people of Tom Krom.
CEO of Nhyiramma Foundation, Nana Adwoa Tutuwaa, tells Peacefmonline.com that when she heard about the life threatening conditions at Tom Krom she couldn’t believe it and wanted to verify it by visiting the place.
“Two years ago, I came here and saw that it wasn’t a pleasant thing to live here. They told me that they only eat rice during Christmas and to buy rice, they even had to travel to main Nsawam town to buy it.
I was shocked about it and to make it worse, they didn’t even have hygienic water to drink. They had to move about five miles to search for water. When I heard the story, I couldn’t be at peace with myself- I had to come back and help”.
OmniBank’s decision to support the borehole project, an initiative by Nhyiramma Foundation is borne out of the banks’ comprehensive CSR strategy to meet the needs of communities in which it operates.
In a short interview with Yaa Fosuah Gyamfi, the Corporate Affairs Manager of OmniBank, she noted that “this move reflects our CSR theme “Growing Communities” which highlights an aspiration to develop deprived communities through long term social intervention initiatives .
In the same vein, the bank appreciates that water is life and a necessity for improving the living conditions of people.”
She added that as part of activities to mark the World Water Day on March 22, the commissioning of the borehole is earmarked to promote the importance of water and advocate for the sustainable management of water resources.
Residents of the town were grateful to Nhyiramma Foundation and OmniBank for the gesture.

It is a pity that 60 years after independence, people are still without safe source of water. The greedy politicians spend millions of dollars to construct one house for a Vice President and after that construct a swimming pool and fill it daily with potable water while fellow Ghanaians are still living with the basic necessities of life.God in heaven is watching and will judge all of us one day. To Nhyiramma Foundation and OmniBank, Ayekoo. God has written your names in the book of life. to the greedy bastards and stomach politicians, continue with your ***barred word*** and sharing. You will all appear before the judgement throne one day.
