Ghana needs a national campaign towards attitudinal change to ensure that things are done right by the citizenry, the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG), has said.
The Council has, therefore, called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to as a matter of urgency, lead a national campaign on topical issues like water pollution, road accidents and open defecation for the citizenry to be awoken and help stem the tide.
“We are calling on the President and the new administration to consider a national campaign programme on attitudinal change. Now the assumption is if you do the normal things and expect extra ordinary result, it will never happen,” the CCG has said.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Friday, Reverend Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, General Secretary of the Council, said just as the late Vice President Aliu Mahama-led national campaign for greater discipline among Ghanaians had a greater impact, so would President Akufo-Addo’s campaign become successful.
He said the Council’s fear and worry was that if things continued to be done as normal and as usually concerning the level of environmental hazards Ghana was witnessing, and water bodies being destroyed, then the result would be minimal.
Rev Opuni-Frimpong said such a national campaign should be multi-sectoral, bringing on board stakeholders, traditional leaders, religious leaders, security agencies, media, on the campaign.
He noted that there was also the need for a pragmatic programme that could be evaluated and measured from time to time to see the impact of such campaigns.
“Now if we don’t see that then it is like we are going to have business as usual, this is the appeal we are making to the current President.
“Accidents on our roads and water pollution; these two cannot wait. Open defecation is also very disgraceful,” he emphasised

This is a good suggestion. But how about the church initiating action and being backed by government? After all the church wields influence over millions of people. How about that?
A Campaign for What? Attitudinal Change? The Church in their daily outdated and oppressed Bible sermoning couldn't Change the Ghanaian right? This should tell them that it is only Economic Innovation that can positively empower and gradually 'Change the Ghanaian' because if the Ghanaian is always having some financial credit in his pocket or bank account it will directly empower, motivate and direct him/her to be doing things right. Not to leave the Ghanaian to drop out of school, hustle on the street, with no state care and expect him/her to live up Good and responsible attitudes and morals. I ask him, ain't him living his life in good attitudinal exempla and ain't he a responsible Citizen? If the Ghanaian, and I'm talking of the Ghanaian most at times we forget that they exist, the millions Citizens they describe as less fortunate are to be treated as a treasury Citizens, coached, empowered and financially assisted all these bad attitudes will not even have a space as Dr. Opuni wiykd attest to that him, his sons n daughters because of him, they're in a way living upright.
