Some Female students from senior high schools within the Assin area in the Central Region have levelled allegations against their male teachers for harassing them sexually on campus.
The students further stated that, despite learning hard to pass their exams, they are always harassed with sex from their teachers to have good grades and money.
The students made this revelations at the climax of this year’s 16 days of activism against gender-based violence at Assin Anode.
The students who are from Assin Manso SHS, Nyankomasi SHS, Obiri Yeboah SHS, Assin State College, and Assin North Community Day School, explained further that, “They worry us too much especially those of us in the boarding house.”
“They tell you they will give you money and good grades and if you don’t agree to the proposal they sometimes beat you, hate you and even sack you from their class or even fail you in exams.”
“And sometimes because some of our parents are illiterate, they are unable to understand some of the demands we make so they can provide for us, So we easily fall prey to the demands of our female teachers,” they said.
However, expressing worry about the students revelations, the sector minister, Madam Otiko Djaba, indicated that, Ghana frowns on all forms of abuses, and stressed on the need to end teenage pregnancy, child prostitution, defilement, rape, child marriage and human trafficking as Ghana progresses as a nation.
According to her strict measures would be instituted in various Senior High Schools, more especially in girls’ schools to check the activities of male teacher’s.
“It is important for all to know that, it is against the law to commit a crime against both children and adults. Adding that, any teacher who will fall prey to the law, that is either by harassing students unnecessarily or exchanging their studies with sex will be held by the law”, Otiko Djaba stressed.

GOVERNMENT SHOULD TAKE MATTER SERIOUSLY .. IS TOO BADD
I am so glad that this issue has come to the notice of the public. Last term, my cousin from one of the schools listed reported to me that one of the male teachers in the school proposed to her, and as she refused, he teamed up with other unscrupulous male teachers to embarrass her; and she is only but a form one student. I really hope that the appropriate quarters would take this issue up to the core. It is sad that those who are supposed to be role models of our country's future leaders are rather the ones who are destroying them. All such teachers, irrespective of the level they teach should bow their heads in shame!!!
Good job Madam Otiko; we support you 1000% make it tough for male or female teachers from taking advantage of these students.
What about the tertiarry lecturers too...dey re all part... It will be done to their wards too
most of Ghanaian men have no shame and no morals. Ghana is falling shot in everything because our attention is on things that are no necessary. We will pay the price one day if we realised our dear country have been thrown to the pigs by ourselves and nobody else. GNAT should dismiss all these teachers to serve as a deterrent to others.
How can you go to bed with a teenage student? Dont you have any respect for your self? I also taught an SHS class in the Volta Region during my National Service days. There was a girl in my class who was showing some signs of interest in me, but I pretended I never saw any signs. As a young graduate from University, I had feeling but hey, how could I have done that?
@YEBB, its not easy to be a man and stay chaste when all these goodies abound..remember now more young graduate teachers are in the system way to go is to institute stiffer punishment for offenders
oooh this is not something new ooo i completed SHS 13years ago and it was ongoing by then, even if u are a guy and a teacher sees u with a girl he admire then u are in trouble cos the teacher think u want to take what he wants
This is totally ***barred word***, GHANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! our beloved country is turning to something else
