Managing Director (MD) of Japan Motors Trading Company Ltd, Salem Kalmoni, has revealed that he did not pay a dime to sit at the high table together with President Nana Akufo-Addo at a recently held awards ceremony.
His comments comes on the back of accusations by the Minority in parliament that the Trade Ministry charged expatriates an amount up to $100,000 at an awards ceremony organized by the Millennium Excellence Foundation.
But Mr Kalmoni in an interview with Kasapa FM during a Presser held in the capital, Accra on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 said he did not pay any money, adding “Absolutely zero, not one cedi…I was on the table, a few seats away from the president.”
Kalmoni’s company picked up an award at the ceremony and maintained his outfit will support the initiative in subsequent editions.
“I think it is new, an award to honour expatriates and natural expatriates who are part of the Ghanaian community and I will be supportive of such an action. There are so many awards and this is another out of the box idea and I will be supporting it,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Trade and Industry has described as baseless reports circulating that the Ministry charged expatriates between 25,000 to 100,000 dollars to be offered seats close to the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the awards ceremony.
The Member of Parliament for Asawase, Muntaka Mubarak had alleged on the floor of parliament that the fees charged at the Ghana Expatriate Business Awards were not approved by Parliament, adding that the monies accrued were also not accounted for in the Internally Generated Funds [IGF] of the Ministry’s accounts.
The Ghana Business Expatriates awards was held on December 8 at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra where Twenty-four expatriate businesses operating in the country were honoured for their outstanding performance over the years.

Corrupt NDC is trying hard to equalizes corruption with NPP gov't but all prove futile, very soon when the special prosecutor start his job,Ghanaians will see their full corrupt picture, nation wreckers!
No one needs Isaac Newton's Laws of motion to understand that, this outcry by the MD is being said under an influence. When someone came out and said he was the one being referred to as the President but not Nana Akuffo Addo. Today, the culprits find it difficult to defend themselves. They have finally put words into the mouth of the MD to declare that he paid no penny to sit by Nana Addo on the same table. Fine, if he did not pay, others might have paid. So this outcry can not still the conscience of Ghanaians to believe what is being said.
NDC IS DESPERATE AT THE OPPOSITION. THEY ARE DESPERATELY CRYING WOLF WHERE THERE IS NO WOLF. THEY STARTED RIGHT AWAY FROM VETTING OF MINISTERS, ACCUSING BOAKYE GYARKO OF GIVING BRIBES WITHOUT PROOF. IT LOOKS LIKE THEY ARE TARGETING SOME INFLUENTIAL PERSONS IN NPP KNOWING THE POTENTIALS OF SUCH PERSONALITIES. AMONG THOSE TARGETED SO FAR INCLUDE VP BAWUMIA, BOAKYE AGYARKO, OSEI WUSU, OTIKO AFISA, DR. OPOKU PREMPEH (NAPO), OSEI-WUSU, ATTA AKYEA, AMEWU, AND NOW ALAN KYEREMATENG. IT IS A DESPERATE ATTACK ON NPP GOVERNMENT, BUT IN ALL THE CASES THERE IS NO SUBSTANCE IN THEIR CLAIMS WHATSOEVER. THE NDC IS DOING THIS IN THE ATTEMPT TO FORGE EQUALIZATION OF CORRUPTION LEVELLED AGAINST THEM BY NPP, FEARING THE WORK OF SPECIAL PROSECUTION TO TRY MANY OF THEIR ACTIVISTS IN THE LAST GOVERNMENT. THE STRATEGY, NO MATTER HOW GOOD THEY MAY FIND IT, IS AN UNFORTUNATE DEVELOPMENT IN OUR POLITICS BECAUSE NOBODY MAY TAKE THEM SERIOUS AT THE TIME WHEN THERE WILL BE A REAL WOLF. WHEN KUFFUOR CAME TO POWER SOME NDC FIGURES WERE IMPRISONED FOR THEIR CORRUPTION. NDC IN OPPOSITION CRIED CORRUPTION BUT WHEN THEY TOOK OVER NONE OF THE PEOPLE PROSECUTED FROM NPP GOVERNMENT, WREKO BROBBEY ECT, COULD BE CHARGED WITH CRIME. THEY ARE TRYING TO DO IT AGAIN BUT GHANAIANS ARE GETTING TO KNOW THEM BETTER. NPP PROVED THAT NDC WAS CORRUPT IN 2000. NOW THEY WILL DO IT AGAIN. NDC SHOULD LEARN THEIR LESSONS FOR NOBODY MAY TRUST THEM.
these ndc ple and false alarm. they think npp will be doing the same thing they did when they were in power. these guys are ust telling us the crook things they did while in power. they are making unnecessary accusations so as to prevent npp from enjoying the same thing they did. cr1m1nals
