There is seething anger among vehicle owners over the newly introduced mandatory first aid tool kit charge by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority.
The new charge which affects both private and commercial vehicles took effect Tuesday January 2, 2018.
Per the terms of the new policy, vehicle owners who visit the DVLA to register their vehicles will have to cough out additional GHC108 to obtain a first aid toolkit.
It is unclear if the fee will also be charged on vehicles seeking to renew roadworthy certificates.
Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament, according to Starr News sources is unhappy about the development and are calling on the government to rescind the move.
In the view of the minority, the charge for the first aid toolkit should be optional and not forced on vehicle owners.

***barred word*** paa bi this. Just a first aid box ( stating the minimum required contents) and just enforce it for both new and existing vehicles as requirement for registration and renewal of roadworthy certificates and just enforce it to the letter. this small thing too officials want to rob citizens. Which first aid kit costs 108 cedis. is meant for surgeons?? Why are we so greedy and wicked to each other. Abufusem aaa kwakwa.
Please, please, please my Ghana people. Why are are we doing this to ourselves? First Aide kits and that has also become politics. Something to save your own life? Yes I agree drivers must be trained on it's use. I advise basic first aid training must be added to the requirement for drivers' licence. I have seen more people die after accident than during accident just because we don't know how to handle ourselves in such circumstances. In fact, i will even support basic first aid as taught subject in our schools instead of some subjects which has no bearing on our future lives.
After payment, are the vehicles supplied with first aid boxes?
Why are you angry? Change has come so enjoy it.
SOMEBODY SHOULD TELL DVLA OR THE GOVERNMENT TO SUPPLY AND EQUIP AMBULANCES ON ALL MAJOR ROADS IN THE COUNTRY WITH FIRST AID KITS AND STOP ALL THESE UNNECESSARY BURDEN ON VEHICLE OWNERS. WHO IS GOING TO TRAIN DRIVERS ON HOW TO DISPENSE FIRST AID TO OTHERS IN THE EVENT OF AM EMEGENCY? YOU CAN BE SURE OF DRUG ABUSE GALORE AS EVERY DRIVER IS GOING TO BE A PRESCIBING DOCTOR OR A DISPENSING PHARMACIST OR BOTH. SEVEN TABLETS OF PARACETAMOL FOR A DOSE AS PAIN KILLER FOR A PREGNANT WOMAN IN LABOUR. HMMMM. WHICH COURT WILL JAIL SUCH AN ***barred word*** DRIVER-DOCTOR /PHARMACIST IN THE EVENT OF SUCH AN ERROR, CIRCUIT COURT/MAGISTRATE COURT, HIGH COURT, COURT OF APPEAL OR THE SUPREME COURT?
