An ex-convict (name withheld) is urging the Police hierarchy to as a matter of urgency to make better use of ‘no nonsense’ Police Commissioner, Kofi Boakye and COP Tetteh Yohuno by tasking them to lead the fight against armed robbery which has been on the ascendancy in the past few days.
According to him, armed robbers dread the ‘tough’ and brave police officer, adding that he’s confident the return of COP Kofi Boakye onto the streets will put fear into the armed robbers and reduce the menace.
The ex-convict added that the immediate past Ashanti Regional Police Commander COP Nathan Kofi Boakye is wasting away as current Director of Research and Planning at the Police Headquarters.
His comments come on the back of the daylight armed robbery incident at Royal Motors at the North Industrial Area in Accra Tuesday where the robbers amidst sporadic gunshots succeeded in bolting with at least Gh¢500,000 of the company’s sales.
On Wednesday, armed robbers in Tema shot dead a Lebanese businessman believed to be working with soap manufacturing firm Delta Agro after he had visited the Zenith bank bolting with a cash sum of GHC200,000.
Before he became the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Kumasi, the second capital of Ghana was inundated with broad daylight robbery and hoodlum with impunity. Armed robbers were on shooting rampage, but his tenure saw such criminal activities reducing drastically due to the measure he introduced.
COP Tetteh Yohuno on the other hand, then Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) was given a special promotion to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) in January 2012 and had earlier in 2011 been awarded Grand Medal for his meritorious service in combating armed robbery and other criminal activities in the country.
Prior to that, as Divisional Commander for Accra Central from November 2007 to May 2009, Mr Yohuno doubled as Accra Regional Operations Commander.
He was later appointed Deputy Accra Regional Commander and rose to become the Regional Commander in 2013 until December 5, 2015.
Speaking on Kasapa FM, the ex-convict who spent 9 years on remand at the Nsawam Prison stated that is unfathomable how distinguished Police Commissioners like Kofi Boakye, Yohuno are being handled by the Police hierarchy, liking the situation to a tough striker being a reserved player in a soccer game while the team is trailing several goals.
“There are some police officers we’re worrying ourselves keeping them in the office, COP Kofi Boakye, COP Tetteh Yehunu, these are dread Policemen that armed robbers fear a lot. These people must be put on the grounds because they’ll pursue armed robbers and arrest them because they have people on the ground working with them and they have a lot of information.
“Armed robbers fear Kofi Boakye, especially our Nigerian brothers who are into armed robbery here, I can tell you for a fact that whenever they hear his name they become frightened. See, it’s about the person ooo, not the position you’re heading. When the Nigerians hear that Kofi Boakye has return to the streets, they’ll send back information to their country cautioning their fellow robbers not to come down to Ghana because he’s back in charge. They really fear that man.”

I am CONFUSED! Somebody help me!Are we saying that the whole Ghana Police Service has only two people who can discharge their duties meritoriously? What it therefore means is that if these two fine gentlemen, as human as they are should die, does it mean they will die with the Service? We should have more of Kofi Boakyes and Yohunos in the Service if Ghana will succeed in crime prevention and control.
he is not the only policeman in the country
Kofi Boakye should be extra careful if he is brought back to the criminal unit to help fight robbery. He should bear in mind that not all those making noise for his come back wish him well. Kofi... be extra extra careful when you are put back on the street so you don't fall on any of their traps.Ask God for divine direction. Remember....those who cried 'HOSANNA' on palm sunday were the ones who days later cried 'CRUCIFY HIM'.
The IGP is capable of dealing with the matter so lets leave him alone to deal with the problem in collaboration with his abled men. Kofi Boakye is happy where he is and we must leave it like that. The Police council does not need his services now.
Mr Yohunu is a very powerful man, I remember when armed robbers stole my car in 2011, a friend took me to him and he sent the police over to my house, within 7 months he arrested them and I got my car back. This man had operation catch and kill, when they arrested armed robbers he would make sure they are killed because if they release them they will go back to the streets. Bring back Christian Tetteh Yohuno.....
Swallow your pride my IGP we are from different background and can not have different God given talent and assigned duties. You can be like Fellow (Katangee)yours is different. Politics is killing us and reason. Abbaaaa. Your so called reshuffle will never bring an meaningful. Kofi ooh s better than you on this. Eyes are watching.
Is true, Kofi Boakye is perfect for the job to fight against them, that's why they cry to ask for his transfer. Kindly put him on the street to fight against them.
i don't know why NPP is keeping Kofi in the office. We all know he is intelligent but Kofi is not for the office.
i agree
This Boakye Guy will ***barred word*** the hell out of these fuuckers. just bring him back, this is not politics, it's about the nations safety, come on, NPP))
