The Scripture says "“For what profits a man if he gains the whole world but loses his own soul”{see Matthew 16:26} So, let those countries gain the whole World prosperity and let them reject Christ they will still go to hell anyway. Riches without Christ is empty but in Africa our circumstances even help us to rely on Christ for our salvation and deliverance. in other words it helps us to remain focused on Christ. This is the reason why Christ gave us the analogy of the rich man who rejected God and went to hell but Lazarus who was focused on God even though he was poor went to Heaven with angels escorting him.{see {Luke 16:19-31} What is wrong if a nation calls for prayer and fasting for God's divine intervention? Also, I think they put measures in place in terms of drainage system to manage the flood too. Therefore, they will be tackling it spiritual and physical which is a step in the right direction.
@ SEMANKOKA, you have said it all. Please next time limit your use of upper case characterizations. Your points were spot on and deeply reflects the nature of the "African Thinking". Its sad we Africans always rely on providence than using our brains to solve situation. Why are countries like China, Korea and Japan don't even believe in God but are very prosperous when Africans are deeply rooted in religion and are languishing at the bottom of development? And to think of, why would a whole government spending hard resources to fund a "national Cathedral" when poor women in the village have to travel many miles on motor bikes across a deep-flowing river to reach a dilapidated hospital/clinic and end up sleeping on the floor with a new born baby because resources are not enough.? The African needs to start think of itself and for itself and stop reliance on others. Reliance on foreign loans and aids will continue to disrupt our development. We need to be able to add and invest in our raw materials that will benefit the nation and will appeal to foreign nations to buy. Why do you think America and the West are reluctant to punish Saudi Arabia for the killing of a journalist in a diplomatic consulate in Turkey? African leaders needs to read and start applying the thoughts of Immanuel Kant's "Progress to Stability & Development".
"If the people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray, seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will heal the land" 2 chron 7:14
Singapore just got devastated by an earthquake/Tsunami. This should tell you how Africa is blessed, yet instead of putting our brains to work, we spend almost all the time praying. How else do you want God to answer your prayers? I am very sure God himself is very much disappointed with we Africans. Do you think if the Chinese spent all their time praying, they would have developed this level?
