Professor Raymond Atuguba of the Faculty of Law, University of Ghana (Legon) has asked if the government will reinstate Professor Mawutor Avoke, as the Vice Chancellor of University of Education, Winneba (UEW).
His questions follow the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision Wednesday that quashed an earlier High Court’s decision which led to the removal Professor Avoke in August 2018.
Supreme Court quashes High Court ruling on Avoke’s removal
The Supreme Court held the High Court in Winneba failed to take evidence from the parties in the case before granting judgment in default, something the court said was in breach of natural justice.
A state issued Wednesday by Professor Atuguba, lawyer for Prof. Avoke suggested he seemed unclear about what the ruling of the Supreme Court would mean for the development in the University which already has constituted a new council and sworn in a new Vice Chancellor.
Prior to the swearing in of, Prof. Atuguba had raised concerns about attempts made by the Governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba, to circumvent legal processes to induct Prof. Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni as new Vice-Chancellor.
The university eventually swore in the new Chancellor who has since been at post but with the latest development, Prof. Atuguba is wondering whether what the position of the government will be.
“Would the government now do the right thing and remove its representatives on the UEW Council, for misleading and embarrassing the President; reconstitute the UEW Council; and have a properly reconstituted and unbiased Council recall Prof. Mawutor Avoke back as Vice Chancellor?
Or would the government treat UEW differently from KNUST in the absence of an Otumfuo to uphold the law and the rights of Prof. Mawutor Avoke?”, he asked.

The danger to the existence of humanity is the knowledge that some have acquired and not the lack of it. Atuguba, what do you think the ruling of the Supreme Court means? That the former VC of UEW, Prof Avoke be restored to that position? Some of us may be laymen in matters relating to court rulings but we are intelligent enough to ask professionals in that field for interpretation. So far none has come out with the sort of twist that you are alluding to.
Akan dog barking. It is not surprising.
What does Atuguba want from the Court. He went to court to seek some reliefs, he should find out from the court what reliefs he was given. Did he ask for reinstatement? Or has he forgottten why he went to court?
Rhetorical questions engendered for the government's (Attorney General Department-government legal advisors) contemplation. Whether the government could act legally in a conduct, which said conduct may have an impact in a matter pending in court
Is this one too a lawyer? is Winneba under Otumfuor? and did the KNUST VC sent his case to the court? this ethnocentric ***barred word*** who calls himself a lawyer doesn't even understand the law ! Is the KNUST VC working and where did Otumfuor say the man has to work?don't bring Otumfuor into your failure! Akufo Addo didn't sack UEW VC, but the council did and the council chose who they want to be VC go and ask them if they can work with Avoka rather than asking the government that st*upid question. Your ndc will rot in opposition! Agyim*ifuo
No court can compel any employer to employ any employee. Even if Avoke is found innocent, the court can only compel the university to pay damages to the dismissed VC, but not to reinstate him.
LAW PROFESSOR AND YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THE SUPREME COURT'S RULING?? INCREDIBLE. DID YOU SEEK REINSTATEMENT OF THE VC AS ONE OF YOUR RELIEFS FROM THE SUPREME COURT?? DON'T BRING KNUST AND OTUMFUO INTO THIS UEW CASE...FIGHT YOUR BATTLE IN THE LAW COURT PLEASE, MR LAWYER.
This government led by Nana Addo has never had respect for rule of law.
Educated ***barred word***, peddling falsehood, ***barred word***. What is wrong with these people at all.
NOOO.IN YOUR DREAMS.
