Residents of Madina-Adenta on Monday, 12th November, 2018, embarked on a peaceful demonstration to put pressure on government to complete footbridges in their municipality.
The demonstration comes on the back of rising pedestrian deaths on the Highway sparking chaos and roadblocks by the residents.
Reports indicate that over hundred residents have been killed on the Madina-Adenta road due to the lack of footbridges.
On the 8th of November 2018, a first year female student of the West Africa Senior High School (WASS) was killed by a speeding vehicle in an attempt to cross the road on the Madina-Adentan Highway.
This was the straw that broke the camel's back as angry residents blocked the roads in protest of government's unresponsiveness to their cries.
A coalition called 'fixourfootbridgesnow' to drum home their demands, thus planned to embark on what they called a peaceful walk from Adenta Barrier to Madina.
However, the police stopped them from moving to the Madina-Adenta township; demanding that they end the protest at the Ritz Junction.
Meanwhile, the coalition has planned to embark on another demonstration in ten days time if government fails to respond to their request.

DO YOU GUYS REALIZE LIVES ARE LOST DUE TO THIS CHILDISH BEHAVIOR OF OUR LEADERS. HONESTLY, IT ISN'T TO BE ABOUT POLITICS BUT THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A PRESIDENT WHO IS GROWN TO BE A GRANDFATHER FOR THE SAKE OF POWER KEEPS DENYING THE FACT THAT INFRASTRUCTURE IS GOOD MAKING A LOT OF ***barred word*** GHANAIANS ASK QUESTIONS, IS ROAD WHAT WE WILL CHOP?.. IS IT INFRASTRUCTURE WE GO CHOP??... THE MOMENT A WHOLE LEADERS DOES THIS FOR POWER, THEN SHOULD KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM... NOW THESE ARE SOME OF THE PROBLEMS THOSE SILLY COMMENTS COULD BRING... PLEASE STOP COURTING SYMPATHY FOR THE GOVERNMENT BECAUSE IT MAKES THEM LOOK REAL BAD.... AFTER ALL THESE LOANS??, WE STILL TRYING TO DEFEND... WE ARE OUR OWN ENEMIES AMPA.
Irresponsible responses.........from the responses i am very much convinced you are looking at this issue with a political lens.....How about the lives that are being lost? If the government lives up to its responsibility by providing the bridges will somebody be out there? Or you guys think some of us are happy living our work to be demonstrating? It will be wrong for me to wish such circumstances on you.....just pray you never find yourselves in such situation!!! If the bridge is made and you never use it and get killed then that's your cup of tea.
@ JB You are echoing exactly what I am thinking. There are people who are flush with our own stolen loot and they are spreading it around trying very hard to make life as difficult as possible for this government. Take the horrible state of the motorway for instance. It's been like this for God knows when .All of a sudden there are motorists who are refusing to pay the toll because of the nature of the road. What they should accept is that the th13f Mahama WILL not come back to power no matter what they do because the people of Ghana are not ***barred word***. It is good to put government on its toes but to encourage anarchy is another thing else. Those who have st0len the people's money and are using it against them should realise that if ever there is a conflagration, they will not be able to sit in their air -conditioned SUVs and drive around town calling on their concubines We shall all perish together .My advice? Never start anything you cannot stop. The people might decide they know those who have stolen from them and pay them a visit in the night. How about that?
@JB those are my sentiments exactly. As an outsider looking in, one can only conclude that there are elements within your country who are doing all they can to make life difficult for your current government and possibly make the country ungovernable. Certain decisions taken by your current government have stripped those people of their sources of easy money/wealth power and recognition therefore they will stop at nothing to bring down your government even to the detriment of the ordinary citizens.
Just wondering? What is behind all these spontaneous demonstrations to force Government to undertake projects. We need to be careful we don't push ourselves to the brink of chaos. Imagine if all communities with infrastructural challenges embark on demonstrations. The national security should sit up before something happens. Some people may be using for their agenda. Why is nobody condenming the wanton destruction of national property by people burning tyres on asphalt road? Hmmm.
Ghana water, when will residents around Adenta get water in their homes?????
