Mr Emmanuel Britwum, one of the two ModernGhana journalists who were arrested, detained and allegedly tortured and assaulted by National Security operatives, has denied ever suffering any torture or seeing his other colleague, Mr Emmanuel Ajarfor Abugri, tortured.
In a statement issued through his lawyer Debora Asabere-Ameyaw on Wednesday, 3 July 2019, Mr Britwum said he was “neither tortured nor brutalised” in any way as alleged.
Mr Abugri, on the other hand, has claimed that he was tasered, kicked and punched during his 48-hour detention.
The two were arrested on Thursday following a raid on their office by the security operatives.
Mr Ajarfor claimed their heads were covered with black polythene bags to prevent them from seeing anything while they were driven to an unknown location for grueling and torturing interrogation.
The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Minority in Parliament, the Ghana Journalists Association, as well as several civil society groups have condemned the alleged assault even though the National Security Secretariat denied any such assault took place.
Mr Britwum’s statement issued by his lawyer said he “dissociates himself from allegations of misconduct being levelled in his name against the National Security” in connection with his “alleged unlawful arrest”.
According to him, he is giving the security agencies his full cooperation with the investigations.

You see. When Samson Ayenini suddenly became PR for this Ndc journalist jumping from radio to TV station, I warned him. You now see your elasticity. In fact the guy was coached to say what he has said. But the truth will never be subdued when competent group of people are in charge
OUR STATE INSTITUTIONS SHOULD NOT ALLOW NDC TO USE THEM. WHAT IS GIJ AND OTHER BOGUS INSTITUTIONS WHO WERE INSULTING THE GOVERNMENT SAYING? SHAME,SHAME GALORE!!!!
And they call themselves journalists. Two people, sent to the same place, each saying a different thing. I think some so-called journalists and some lawyers are politicians whose objective is to shame the government in power. GJA, did you interrogate these two guys properly, as well as their lawyers and the numerous'experts'who issued statements on this issue? Send these guys to court, demand their medical records, siphon the truth from them and jail them if found guilty of hacking. Some of them will behave properly next time.
Hey Anokware and Junior did you read the story well or you guys need free education. It is not the same guy who said he was tortured is the now saying he wasn't tortured. they are different people. read the story well for you need free education.
GJA over to you, Ghana Journalists Association seems to be loosing it creditability for following some of it members who are not being truthful to Ghanaians and it own Association.
Massa you and your NDC doomsayers will forever be in opposition. should I also say that the opposition NDC did brib@d Mr. Abugri to tell lies against the National Security just to score political point for the NDC ?? .
This and more are the reason I will vote against this government. This guy vow to the previous lawyer that he was tortured and even before the leadership of GJA. Now that something has exchange hands you turn round abandoned your previous lawyer to come and say this nosenseeeeeee. God is watching all of us.
If it is true you were never tortured and u said so initially to con the public against the national security it is unfortunate. Next time if a journalist says he is being hanged alive do not blame the public if you receive no attention. Do not take us as fuuu uls we value human life and NOT politics
