The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has intervened in the matter of 8 senior high school students dismissed for insulting the president.
According to a release dated Friday, January 13, 2022, the Ministry of Education said the president intervened in the matter after his attention was drawn to the dismissal of the eight final-year students of Chiana Senior High School.
“The President of the Republic, H. E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has intervened in the above subject matter after it was drawn to his attention.
“Consequently, the Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has directed the Ghana Education Service to consider an alternative disciplinary action against the students,” parts of the statement signed by the Spokesperson of the Ministry, Kwasi Kwarteng said.
The eight students were captured in a video that went viral on social media in November 2022 making several disparaging remarks about the president.
Consequently, the Ghana Education Service in a statement dated Wednesday, January 11, 2022, approved the dismissal of the 8 students after it was recommended by their school.
Portions of a statement by GES read, “Management of Ghana Education Service (GES) has given approval for the dismissal of eight students with immediate effect to serve as deterrence to other students”.
The statement also described the act of the dismissed students as unacceptable and an abuse of the codes of conduct in Ghana’s educational system.

@Jojo, I couldn’t agree with you more. Here in the Uk, the British Asians still respect their elderly while as the British Black don’t. I simply can’t it why we think civility means being disrespectful to our elders. Is it co-incident that the Asians are doing very well in life. Listening to people like Kelvin Taylor makes me “shudder” and worried for our children’s future.
A timely intervention by the president which is commendable. Out right dismissal would have meant a bleak future for these girls. Their action to say the least was silly. The School authorities should give them some punishment within the school campus. They should be made forgo classes and wash the kitchen utensils and carry the food in sauce pans to the dinning hall for one month. This will serve as a warning to other students in public schools nationwide. It is unthinkable that students who one to take over as leaders tomorrow will openly insult the president of their country. I believe they have learnt some bitter lessons for such uncultured behavior. Once again thank you Mr president for intervening.
When u were busy raining insults on the president did u really consider that fun??? Why don’t u just poison your parents n consider that fun as well. I blame some politicians for using you people score political points. Hopefully you’ve genuinely learnt your lessons now.
Characters like these don't deserve FREE SHS! Let their parents pay to educate them! The NDC will always disappoint! Go read their Youth Leader's response to the sacking of these 8 girls
We have thrown away good cultures we all have left discipline to go for international rights which allow children to insult adults ,to be gays etc .These things do not grow in Asia but only AFRICA .The earlier we correct the better these are bad signs for the future .
@Frank, may God forgive you. So, you are in support of the action of the students. Secondly, you also want the students to be dismissed so their future will be jeopardized, and the President will have a bad name. The children did a despicable thing, but they deserve a second chance. This will serve as a deterrent to others. As a country, we need another look at our body politics and stop the blatant insults on radio and TV all over the place from morning to evening every day of the week. Why all that? That is what the children are now seeing as the norm rather than a deviation. You have the likes of Abronye, Mutala, Sammy Gyamfi, Ofosu Kwakye, Captain Smart, Katakyie Afrifa, Owusu Bempa among others using insults all over. That must stop - politics is about ideas, alternate policies, etc. Most of our current politicians are narrow and shallow and therefore are resorting to insults to gain unnecessary attention. That's bunkum and pathetic, to say the least.
First of all the new DG is trying to catch some attention with all the bruhaha that greated his Appointment. In the Coming days, The President will order that the students be reinstated to show that he's the father who';s compasionate . That's all what this quak is all about. Simply, to give some unmerited attention to the president .
