The Electoral Commission has released figures of the just ended Limited Voter Registration exercise that took place across the country within a 10-day period.
The Electoral Commission’s (EC) limited voters’ registration exercise took off across various registration centres on Thursday, April 28, to Sunday, May 8.
The first phase was from April 28 to May 2, with the second place taken off on the 4th of May to 8th of May,2016.
The exercise, which is one of the major events ahead of the elections on November 7, seeks to register persons who have turned 18, as well as first time voters.
The Chairperson of the EC, Charlotte Osei, had revealed that the Commission is expecting to register about 1.2 million people.
Charlotte Osei revealed this at the launch of the Commission’s new logo and five-year strategic plan at the Best Western Premier Hotel in Accra.
“We are expecting to register about 1.2 million people, that is the maximum. On average , if we get good turnout, we should be looking at 38 people per registration centre per day,” she said.
Three regions namely the Ashanti, Greater Accra, and the Northern regions recorded the highest number of registrants at the just ended Electoral Commission (EC)’s Limited voter registration exercise.
According to the EC’s provisional registration statistics, at the end of the 10-day registration exercise, the Ashanti region recorded the highest with 186, 895 registrants.
