Parliament is considering extending sittings to include Saturdays and Sundays to enable it pass the CI 78 which is to give legal backing to the creation of 45 new constituencies.
The document requires 21 days to mature and leadership of Parliament hopes this move will help quicken the process.
The minority has raised issues stating that the Electoral Commission will not have ample time to ensure that the constituencies are created before the December polls if the CI 78 matures after September even though the EC has assured it has no problem with the time.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Friday, Member of Parliament for Juaboso in the Western region, Sampson Ahi backed the call for sittings to be extended to include weekends.
According to Hon. Ahi, extending sittings to include Saturdays and Sundays will also enable Members of Parliament visit their constituencies to campaign ahead of the elections.
Speaker of Parliament Justice Bamford Addo however stated that the suggestion raised will be put before the Business committee of the house for consideration and approval.
