Audio Attachment:Prof Frimpong Boateng extols Late President Mills |
Though he might be politically opposed to the doctrines of the NDC, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, has vouched for a safe haven under the late former President Mills, if the former leader had been given the necessary health attention he needed before his demise.
The former CEO of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital revealed on Okay FMs morning show program that he only got to know late President Mills in the latter part of the year 2000; when he encountered series of problems at Korle Bu, and had wanted to personally resign to seek greener pasture elsewhere.
He noted that after he had become friends with the late Mills, it became awesome knowing about the good intentions and the will power to deliver the great things President Mills had saddled his brains with for Ghana.
Before Ghana voted in 2000, I went to the Castle with the intention to inform President Rawlings about my intention to resign from Korle Bu because some of the people I worked with had issues with me.
"Unfortunately, I got to meet Vice President Mills who pleaded with me not to lay down my tools because of the people I had issues with...he told me to come back and work for mother Ghana. We had a lengthy conversation and after that I came back to work. After the 2000 elections, President Mills who lost that elections used to come to my office at Korle Bu and tell me about his plans for Ghana; I also disclosed my intentions to him, he recalled.
However, the one-time head of the Korle-Bu Cadiothoracic Centre reminded listeners of the pain that accompanied his forceful exist from the nations premier hospital during the tenure of late Prez Mills.
Though he refused to drag the name of President Mills into his dismissal from the hospital, he accused those around the former president of taking advantage of the late presidents health and acting unprofessionally to pursue their selfish interests.
On 26th August, 2011, Peacefmonline sighted a copy of Prof. Frimpong Boatengs termination letter which was signed by the Health Minister, Joseph Yieleh Chireh and copied to the President, Prof J.E.A. Mills, the Chief of Staff, John Henry Martey Newman and the Deputy Minister of Health, Rojo Mettle Nunoo.
A portion of the letter read: In view of your transfer from the Ministry Of Health (MOH) to the University of Ghana Medical School (UGMS) your appointment as Honorary Director in charge of the National Cardiothoracic Centre (NCTC) has been terminated with immediate effect.
Though the termination took effect in 2011, Prof. Frimpong Boateng disclosed on Okay FM that his tragedy had nothing to do with a directory from the former late president.
"Knowing Prof. Mills for who he is, I know he would have approached me before I existed from Korle Bu and asked pertinent questions.Nothing of that sort came and before I could say jack, a letter had come from the then minister of health that I should resign from the cardio centre. I know with the way President Mills reasons, if he had been fit during his tenure, Ghana would have been a better place for us all...but it was unfortunate looking at the way they handled him.
