President Mahama has called on leaders of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) to demonstrate a high level of political will to eradicate the bribery and corruption canker at the various ECOWAS borders to enhance economic integration.
President Mahama said it is about time the legislations governing trade amongst the ECOWAS sub region is fully interpreted and adhered to, without any interference and hindrance.
He noted that human interference, bribery and corruption at the various borders is hampering the trade integration that is supposed to exist for free movements of goods and services. He made these statements at the inaugural ceremony of the Centre for Regional Integration in Accra (CRIA) in Accra this week.
He added that despite the challenges, there is also the need to undertake serious infrastructural development across the continent to link up with our borders.
