Peacefmonline.com can confirm that Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, is still in the grips of security officials after being arrested by police personnel from Asokwa.
The Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, aka Chairman Wontumi, together with other leading party officials in the region are trying to secure bail for the former Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive who was whisked away from the election grounds a couple of hours ago.
Kofi Jumah, who is seeking re-election in the ongoing NPP Primaries, was arrested by the Asokwa Police Command for vandalizing ballot boxes at his constituency, following a misunderstanding between him and other aspirants.
He is engaged in a fierce two-horse race with the sitting MP Patricia Appiagyei who took over the former’s seat in the last primary which was characterized by provocations.
The two are facing-off again in Saturday’s primary.
Following the altercation, voting has stalled in the constituency.
According to the Electoral Commission officer in charge of the primary, the election cannot continue without the presence of Mr. Kofi Jumah or his agent.
