From the Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly [AMA] – to aspiring Member of Parliament - Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije has been tipped as NDC’s flagbearer come 2020.
According to group calling itself the Ga Dangme Youth of the National Democratic Congress [NDC], Oko Vanderpuije is the preferred candidate to lead the NDC after the tenure of President John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking on NEAT FM’s morning show "Ghana Montie", Abdul Aziz Sununu, organizer of the group, opined that in order to prepare the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Accra for the presidential status – the NDC must consider him [Oko Vanderpuije] as the running mate to President Mahama in the 2016 general elections.
He was unhappy that – “No Ga indigene has ascended to the high office of President or Vice President in the history of Ghana”.
Abdul Aziz Sununu assured that his group will work extremely hard to see a “Ga blood” occupy the Flagstaff House in future.
“Oko Vanderpuije with his hard work will be the flagbearer of the NDC in 2020. He cannot contest President Mahama because the president has done very well for the state [Ghana] and must continue till 2020,” he said.
