Fred Agbenyo has asked the Government of Ghana to assure Ghanaians that the Achimota Forest will be put to good use.
Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', the Deputy Communications Director of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) was critical about the use of the Achimota Forest Reserve for eco-tourism.
According to him, though it is a good initiative, it is however prudent that the authorities do not allow the forest to be destroyed for whatever purpose.
He was keen on how the authorities are going to maintain the forest irrespective of the eco-tourism, because to him, the forest is one of the country's major reserves.
He noted that the capital city does not have enough forest reserves and so, the government should ensure that sale of the forest reserve to foreign investors will inure to the benefit of the citizenry.
Government has hinted its decision to cede the 16.2 square kilometers Achimota Forest Reserve to a foreign investor for eco-tourism.
It is revealed that the government has signed an agreement with Aikan Capital Limited for the Achimota Forest Reserve situated in Accra to be transformed into an eco-tourism facility.
Even before the forest is turned in for eco-tourism purposes, there are already controversies with some critics and political figures casting doubts about the maintenance of the reserve to benefit the citizens of the country.
In view of this, the NDC Deputy Communications Director believes it is only an assurance from the authorities that can put the matter to rest.
“What we need as at now is the assurance that the project won’t destroy the forest . . . The leaders should clarify the issues to the understanding of Ghanaians with the assurance that they won’t touch the vegetation. It will still remain the way it is," he stated.

Where is KB Asante, where are the GA Dangbe youth who protested against Prez Kufour having his Office in Accra, YOUR ACHIMOTA FOREST IS UP FOR SALE. What are going to do about it this time.
NDC STEALING BRIGADE ON PARADE HIGHLIGHTING STEALING AND ROBBERY OF GHANA MONEY. VOTE MAHAMA AND NDC OUT AND SAVE GHANA FROM CORRUPTION, HUNGER AND STEALING OF GHANA MONEY. NO 3RD TERM FOR JULOR MAHAMA!!!
The forest won't be handed over to foreign investors but rather a Ghanaian company that is working together with its foreign partners to develop the forest into an eco tour facility.
We cannot manage our own God Save Ghana hmmm, what kind of leaders Ghana is producing.
There will be no eco-tourism. This is a plan to sell achimota forest to residential developers. This plan must be stopped.
This sale should be stopped. Govt gave up large land areas in Kaneshie as an industrial area, but now, the place is full of churches and apartments. This is going to be the end of Achimota forest. It should be stopped.
If foreign investors want to create eco-tourism park nearby, they should go to Suhum and leave Achimota forest as it it.
So government must put rules in place to guide developers who will buy land or properties there. You tell them what to do and if they fail to abide by the rules, you punish them severely. Government is always late to the party. We don't think ahead of the problems that might come later.
