The promises made by President John Mahama in his presentation of highlights of the National Democratic Congress’ manifesto ahead of its launch Saturday, 17 September will be delivered, the party has said.
“We have not put anything in our manifesto that we don’t intend to keep,” observed Kofi Adams, the party’s 2016 campaign coordinator Friday on Radio Gold.
The Minority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has described the NDC's manifesto promises as a “phantom.” He said: “it was a rehash of what NDC government always talks about. All the things he said were part of what the NDC promises earlier but could not do it.”
“There was nothing new in what the president presented,” Mensah-Bonsu said, adding “if the NDC proposed to achieve all the things enumerated, that is fine. But all of the things enumerated are not achievable.”
But Mr. Adams, who is also the National Organiser of the NDC, disagreed saying “all our promises are deliverable.” “We can deliver them. They are doable and we know that we can do them,” he stressed.
He said the resources to implement the promises made by President Mahama have been identified and that “all you need is to put the necessary agreements in place and then it is approved by the appropriate authorities” and execution takes off.
Asked whether the NDC feels threatened by the One-District-One-Factory campaign promise by the Flag bearer of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo; Mr. Adams replied that “it doesn’t shake our foundation because it is a promise that is a lie.”
Likening the NDC to God, Mr. Adams stated that “why do you think that...God knows that Satan cannot defeat him on any day but it is worried about Satan’s activities because he feels that it will make some of his children wayward.
“We know that the NPP cannot defeat us but we feel that some people will fall for this trap that they are not supposed to fall for. So it is not like we are worried. Not at all, We know that on any occasion any day we will deal with this people. Like God and Satan we need to show concern,” he lucidly stated.
