The Communications Minister says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has a lot in store for nurses, nursing students and graduate nurses as there is an employment opportunity for some 12,000 people when the party wins the December elections.
Dr Omane Boamah said a project to add some 6,000-beds to hospitals and polyclinics across the country from 2017 by the NDC government would guarantee the above-listed jobs.
There has been a lot of complaints by nursing school graduates who say they have been unemployed after school.
Some are quick to travel abroad where they say their services are much needed because of unemployment in Ghana. Also, they claim they are well paid abroad.
Some nurses have picketed at the Health Ministry in the last few weeks in protest to either not being posted after they graduated or received their salaries for a long time.
Speaking on Health and Education at the manifesto launch of the NDC’s manifesto in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region, Dr Boamah said President Mahama is determined to do more in the two sectors.
