Emmanuel Atoto, the Volta Regional Administrator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said the Party had banned the use of motorbikes by its supporters on Election Day.
He said the ban was to ensure violence-free polls and reduce incidence of road crashes during the 7 polls.
Mr Atoto said this during a road safety campaign by the National Road Safety Commission in the Region with support from the Ghana Education Service ahead of the elections.
The Administrator stated the commitment of the NDC to event free polls and safety on the road during the electioneering and called for support of other stakeholders.
Mr Divine Bosson, Member, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Regional Campaign Team, said safety was in the hands of individuals and the police and urged the police to be fair to all parties.
Miss Joan Fafa Ayer, Assistant Planning Officer, National Road Safety Commission, Ho said election periods witnessed sharp increases in road accidents and urged political parties to help reduce road crashes ahead of the polls and with the coming of the Christmas season.
She advised drivers to strictly abide by the rules and regulations of road use, especially speed limits and also cautioned them against fatigue and drink driving.
As part of the campaign, students carried placards and banners calling on the various political parties, transport operators, the Ho Municipal Assembly and the office of the Regional Minister to help reduce road crashes during the electioneering and Christmas.
Mr Francis Komla Ganyaglo, Deputy Regional Minister said road safety was a collective responsibility and called its education a year-round project that must be extended to all.
Togbui Hodgi Dunyo IV, Chief of Atanve and President, Road Safety Transformation Foundation, an NGO, said children were involved in the awareness campaign because their vulnerability placed them more at risk of road accidents.
He charged them to carry the message to their parents and peers and also to be cautious when using the roads.
