National Chairman for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Prof. Edmund Delle has described as shocking the percentage the party garnered in the just ended presidential election.
According to him, he was personally shocked that the CPP failed to even garner 1 percent after the results were declared.
Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, the presidential candidate polled 25, 395 votes representing 0.24% of the total votes cast.
Speaking in an interview with Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, Prof. Delle said, the party was extremely surprised that after all the assurances given them by chiefs, residents and Ghanaians during their campaign, they failed to make a mark.
He lamented that never in the history of the CPP has he seen such a poor result in an election.
''This was a campaign I personally took part in. And we really went from village to village; market to market; house to house and we had overwhelming support for the party and especially for our presidential candidate, but we were very alarmed that the result did not reflect the assurance given us by the people. They made it clear to us; even the traditional leaders assured us of their support…The response was very good but we very alarmed after the results came out. Even all the smaller parties together could not get 2 percent of the votes and in the case of the CPP, we could not even get 1 percent.’’
He was even surprised that the disable community assured the CPP of their support but failed to cast their vote for Ivor Greenstreet on election day.
‘’I am really surprised. The results came as a shock to me,’’ he added.
He decried the issue of vote buying from the two major parties; financial and logistical constraints on the part of the CPP.
He said, the party will focus on reorganizing itself and evaluate their poor performance in this year’s election.
Prof. Edmund Delle underscored the need for the smaller parties to go back to the drawing board and find ways of coming together so Ghanaians will have a third force so the current state of a two party state would be broken.

Dr Delle, are you for real? Did you see or hear Kabila and Ivor? They behaved like footsoldiers for the NDC! Kabila can be forgiven for not being "sensible" but Ivor, my God, he was beyond disappointing!
Thank God you even had thtat percentage. you dont even deserve a single vote. Lazy cocoons.
Sorry Boss, you guys deceived yourselves.
How many of the people in Ghana today saw Kwame Nkrumah? This Kwame Nkrumah non sense must stop and CPP must do rebranding and get serious. Second, Kwasi Pratt and the likes of Kabila and Ivor are dining with NDC instead of helping the CPP come back to power. Ivor and Kabilla started very well throwing some jabs on NDC and we were all happy wanting to vote for CPP for change then all of sudden they started attacking the NPP. That was where some of us parted ways with CPP bcos they were rather interested in NPP's opposition but we are interested in government that was why we didnt vote for CPP. Going forward I suggest that Ivor and Kabilla must be kicked out of thier positions as soon as possible. We need a new leader who can face the ruling government but not compromise
Prof, 'stone age' methodologies are just fine for the Stone Age. Ghanaians are rising up to era of 'technology'. Go and read the memoirs of Sir John.
Sometimes I wonder why CPP activist just can't think. Can it possibly be that they enjoy from leftovers from incumbent governments? Ghana is a two party state, governorship is between NPP and NDC period! The followers of Nkrumah didn't believe in his dream, they believed in what he was offering Ghana at that time. So has been the case for successive CPP leaders. In 1992 when they had the chance to start a movement, they rather chose to join forces with NDC! How pathetic on their part. That was their opportunity and they lost it. In 1992, Arkaah used his influence in the party to convert most CPP to NDC, so he and Rawlings would win power, he was successful but guess what, those who moved away never came back again to CPP. It's good they have been crashed heavily in this election, it will help the remnants to decide where to go. Even Nkrumah's own children are divided, how can CPP stand?
Forget of ever coming to power again because CPP is DEAD AND GONE.
KABILA AND IVOR WERE SELL-OUT Perhaps the most disappointing flag-bearers during the 2016 is the CPP flag-bearer. I was so shocked and petrified to hear Mr. Greenstreet channeling all his on Nana Addo and the NPP. I basically asked myself,'is this man doing NDC's bidding?" it was like he has been hired to help bring Nana Addo down. Mr. Ivor's vitriolic attacks on Nana Addo and Dr. Bawuamiah in the Northern part of Ghana confirmed my suspicion- He had been hired by Mr. Mahama. Then came Kabila, the once very promising young politician HAS BEEN BOUGHT. When I heard Kabila flip=flopping in his political delivery and trying so hard to placate and redeem the Mahama corrupt regime then I knew he has been compromised. THE GHANAIAN VOTER IS SO DISCERNING. THE CPP, IVOR and KABILA are all finished and done with. They've been burried together with Mr. Mahama and I'm afraid no serious Ghanaian will ever take the CPP serious again. The CPP is but a shadow of Nkrumah that will lurk in the dark until it finally diminishes into eternal oblivion.
Sorry, Ghanaians did not deceive you. Do you mean "some Ghanaians" ? Those who wanted to vote for CPP did so and I believe that is all that you deserved. The mere fact that I support what CPP is offering does not mean I will vote for CPP. I weigh all the offers by various political parties before making decision and I believe that is what most Ghanaians did. People also change their minds and this is not deception. Prof. Accept that decision making is complex.
I 'm surprised that you are surprised.Your Ivor Greenstreet earned the respect of any Ghanaians when he boldly stood up to the NDC and told them to their faces some home truths about how Ghanaians felt about their inept leadership and corruption in high places.. However later after becoming the flag=bearer of the CPP people were shocked to see Mr Greenstreet constantly attacking the NPP and its flag-bearer as if it was a contest to elect the leader of the opposition .Kabilla is another ***barred word***=hole who single handedly sunk the party.
