Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs has described as a ‘fruitless venture’ the Parliamentary probe into bribery allegations leveled against the Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko by Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga.
A Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee set up by the Speaker of Parliament and chaired by Joe Ghartey, MP for Essikado Ketan and Minister for Railways Development would commence investigations into the allegations.
Other members of the committee are Ben Abdallah Banda, MP for Offinso South; Magnus Kofi Amoatey, MP for Yilo Krobo; Ama Pomaa Boateng, MP for Juaben and Benson Tongo Baba MP for Talensi.
The committee has been tasked to investigate Mahama Ayariga’s allegation that Boakye Agyarko – who was being vetted by the Appointments Committee – through some people, paid GH¢3,000 to the minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs on the committee to influence his (Agyarko’s) approval as Minister of Energy.
They are specifically looking into the allegation against the Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Joe Osei-Owusu, who Mahama Ayariga had mentioned as being the conduit for the bribing and Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, who Mahama Ayariga claimed had brought the money.
The Joe Ghartey committee will call upon Mahama Ayariga, Joseph Osei-Owusu, who is also the 1st Deputy Speaker.
Others to appear are Mohammed Mubarak-Muntaka, and Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko.
The probe into the allegations, the NDC Regional Chairman has claimed would have no meaningful ending.
“The probe won’t end in anything, there is only going to be shifting of the goalpost…,” he said on Peace FM’s Krokrokoo on Wednesday.
Allotey Jacobs further emphasized that he was convinced the Energy Minister did not give bribe to any member of the Appointments Committee arguing further that claims of bribery allegation are attempts to tarnish the reputation of Boakye Agyarko.
“I still stand by my position that Boakye Agyarko did not give bribe to anybody, they are only spoiling somebody’s name…the man must be allowed the chance to go and work..,” he said.
Background
The investigation was launched after Mahama Ayariga and two minority MPs – Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Alhassane Suhuyini – had accused Boakye Agarko of bribing them.
Ayariga, the MP for Bawku Central, caused public outrage when he claimed on pro-NDC network – Radio Gold – recently that the Minority Chief Whip who is the NDC MP for Asawase, shared envelopes containing GH¢3,000 for minority members serving on the Appointments Committee to approve Mr. Agyarko.
The Minority Chief Whip has already denied ever sharing envelopes containing GH¢3,000 each to approve the nomination of Mr. Agyarko to become Minister of Energy, but this appears to have incensed his colleagues on the minority side of parliament.
Mahama Ayariga claimed Alhaji Muntaka had told them that it was the Committee’s Chairman Joe Osei-Owusu, who gave the money to them and said they later got to know that it was coming from Mr. Agyarko.
In the ensuing debate, Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, a minority member of the Appointments Committee, was also said to have said on Montie Fm – a sister station of Radio Gold – that he didn’t know anything about the alleged bribe, even though he was expected to have benefitted from it.

Eei when a trap catches an ***barred word*** its cry is different from when the trap leaves it, i remeber how Allotey gave it to some journalists at peacefm during the election time (when they were in a comfortable lead) by cursing them as well. Now this man has learn some sense so he want to speak the truth before he join his ancestors by the way is good to realize what kind of babies with sharp teeths like ablakwa, ayariga and co are to the NDC party and tru this the party will forever stay in opposition. My first time of hearing something good from allotey
I have said this and i repeat: whatever the outcome would be, Parliament would not be the same in my mind. If Mr. Agyarko really did this, what a shame. If he did not DO it and the Ablakwas and the Ayarigas and the Suhu... whatever cooked this story, can you conclude how low their intelligence is (1), how a waste of space, energy and time this whole had been (2). And the last, would the culprits continue to stay in parliament? So tell me, why should i respect parliament?
ABLAKWA, AYARIGA AND SUHUYINI, OR WHATEVER YOU CALL YOUR F-CKING SELF; HERE IS SOMEONE FROM YOUR OWN PARTY WHO KNOWS YOU AS UNREPENTANT AND CRIMINAL LIARS IS TELLING THE WHOLE WORLD THAT YOU ARE LIARS!!! AND HE DOESNT BELIEVE YOU!!! IS IT NOT AN INDICTMENT ON YOUR HONOUR AND CREDIBILITY???
For so called honorable MPs to conspire such heinous crime against colleagues, smacks of betrayal of the institution they represent. If these men are proved dishonorable, they should suffer the severest punishment to serve as deterrent to further adventurists. To think that for 8yrs the destiny of our country was in the hands of reckless men as these is indeed very worrying. They wasted our time.
The first sensible and credible contribution from Allotey! lol
Well spoken my brother
Ayariga is a disgrace to Mohammed and Islam.as for suhuyini, I pity him. He is the first mp to appologize to parliament in 2017.
All Alotey wants is contract and free money from NPP. I know how corrupt this man is hence will see nothing wrong with this case. NDC must fish out such leaders. He is the main reason NDC loss massively in the Central Region.
At least we now know that not all leading us in the NDC are mentally curupt. The likes of Allotey & Muntaka gives us hope of power someday. If you want to come up with a scheme for us to dent the Ruling Governent, it must be matured enough and wisdom must prevail so that all can support. This story is unfortunate because any discerning mind can tell its a lie.Why would Agyarko on the Majority side give Bribe at vetting knowing very well that his worse will be to vote on him. Now tell me how many is the Majority , Minority Ratio? What happened to Otiko? Is she not serving at her position? So why do you want us to believe you? As for Okudzato the least said about him the better. Your story is too weak and immature. You came to tell the whole Ghana you met no other person than Nii Lantey at Muntaka's office when you returned the Bribe and you met Ayariga on the way when you were returning the Bribe so Ayariga asked you to return his as well. Child's Play. You can't be serious. These are the very people who sent us to opposition and they are here f0ooling again instead of helping us to get better.
