President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has instructed his appointees and close associates never to use the accolade – ‘His Excellency’ – in addressing him.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who made the disclosure at a public event Tuesday, believes his boss wants to live a modest life.
“It’s an honour to represent His Excellency… He [Nana Addo] said we should not call him His Excellency anymore,” Dr. Bawumia told the audience at the African Diaspora Homecoming Conference on Tuesday.
Nana Akufo-Addo is said to prefer being called ‘Mr President’ to ‘His Excellency’ which looks more patronizing.
Nana Akufo-Addo has served notice that he is not into government to enrich his pocket.
“If your goal in coming into government is to enrich yourself, then don’t come. Go to the private sector. Public service is going to be exactly that; public service!” the president had cautioned.
Nana Addo, who is Ghana’s fifth president under the Fourth Republic, has promised to protect the public purse.
“We must decentralize more, trust the collective, restore integrity in public life. State coffers are not spoils for the party that wins an election. I shall protect the public purse and insist on value for money,” he remarked during his inaugural speech.

Mr President, please listern more to wife if you want to a perfect man and stop taking her corrections as scolding. She is the only person who has the courage or mandated by God to tell you the truth.
A HUMBLE BEGINNING.
This was a guy that was called his excellency by his Nima Flag staff house folks when in opposition. Now we are being told he wants to be called Mr. President not HIs excellency. I take it with a pinch of salt. This power drunk guy has a big ego and it has showed up all through his journey in the public eye. Mr. President is still a title he should rather they call him by his first name. Tweaaa spare us the propaganda. Humility is not in Nana Addo's DNA.
why is it that Ghanaians are much interested in big titles? the bigger the titles, the bigger they loot the nations treasures have anybody heard Europeans addressing president His Excellency? or parliamentarians Honorable? This shows he is pointing to civilization in politics and not stealing in politics.
Thanks Dr. Mensa Otabil. He said this in his teachings long ago. Generational thinker.
Excellency or President all I ever wanted is fix the dumsor after 60 years of independence!
This shows how he never thought he could become the president of Ghana some day. How do you refuse to be called your excellency when this is just the norm. He has been ***barred word*** all his life so he doesn't see why a ***barred word*** should be called his excellency. In his heart of heart he know he doesn't deserve that title. He thinks if he says no one should call him his excellency, it would brainwash people into thinking he is humble. No! He is only exposing how undignified he is. His excellency is the title of your office and if you don't accept it then you must as well vacate the post for Barwumia. What a ...."......."...."....."
Mr. President!! As you want it, so will it be!! Observers are worried.
It is no reflection of his humility or otherwise. In the end whether we call him Bob or James doesn't matter. Just deliver already!
