The managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has criticised President Akufo Addo for firing back at critics who claim that his Independence Day speech was full of distortions.
According to him, if President Akufo Addo sees young critics as unqualified to criticise him as far as the country’s history is concerned, then he (Akufo Addo) should not have read his speech at all; ‘unless he (Akufo Addo) was born in 1771’
President Akufo Addo said at the ‘Ghana: 60 Years On’ Unity Ball 2017 that “this has been a very strange week. On Monday, I made a speech to the country which I tried to speak about how we became Ghana. And like everything I say, it has ended up in controversy. But that is how it should be. A politician who doesn’t generate controversy is a dull politician…The amusing part of it is that the people who did not live through the independence era – young people who came much after – claim that I distorted the history of Ghana and belittled the role of Kwame Nkrumah. The one man there who actually lived through the era, who was here in Ghana at the time, embraced me as having enhanced the image of Kwame Nkrumah. And that tells you everything about Ghanaian politics. That is President Mugabe. He gave me a big hug,”
In response, Kwesi Pratt said: “if that were the case, what was President Akufo Addo doing talking about the bond of 1844. If people who did not live through the independence struggle have no right to appreciate history and to comment on history, then what was President Akufo Addo doing commenting on the bond of 1844 or the Aborigines right protection society? Perhaps unknown to all of us, our president was born in 1771 because if you accept this logic, then only a person born in perhaps 1771 could have read the speech that he read. In appreciating history, you don’t have to be a methuselah to be able to do that. And this jibe at young people is very interesting”
The renowned journalist was contributing to a panel discussion on Radio Gold's Alhaji and Alhaji.

They said Nana Akufo Addo will never be president, and they have been shocked. Now, they are having sleepless nights.
becos of hate kwesi hardily make sense. even a class 4 pupil will understand what nana means.so u can distort what nana said. ***barred word***
I am surprise that some people r hailing Kwesi for this poverty analysis.. Kwesi so far has not been able to tell Ghanaians what Nana said which is wrong.. He has not pointed out one and people r saying thumbs up Kwesi, thumbs up for what.. Like somebody said he sees everything right with NDC and everything wrong with NPP and kwaku baaku who has all the document said that Nana didn't say anything which is wrong..Please lets informed ourselves better and lets stop this needless propaganda... Kwessi did say for Woyome and to find out that he was a recepient of the woyome cash.. God will punish that guy one day
There he goes again. Pouncing on the least opportunity to hit at Nana. How does Nana's statement suggest that young people are unqualified to criticise him? Reading the whole statement, one can only arrive at one conclusion. The president was only suggesting that those doing the criticism dont have first hand information as a person like Mugabe who was present has, and who congratulated him for presenting the facts as they happened. So the prez was only making a comparison between those who were present and those who only read about it, implying that those who only read about it dont have the full story or must have been fed with wrong information. kwesi knows better than to pick the young people phrase out of context and use it as a basis to attack Nana, very typical Kwesi Pratt's style
oh Pratt! Don't be like Koku wai!
As a matter of fact kwesi Pratt is right,Even Ako Adjei who in his own wisdom invited the great African(DR. KWAME NKRUMAH ) to join the UGCC has not being recognized till date. so my question is what significant role did Akuffo ADDO played that the NPP wants to force his name into our history books KRAA, #NKRUMAHNEVERDIES
The greediness and selfishness of NDC and its appendages like Kwesi Pratt caused them to steal billions of our tax monies and still shared our official SUVs, land and official residence (for Mahama Kanazoe) while exiting office. It is the same spirit that make them want to paint Nkrumah as the sole founder of GH. In recent past, they made Atta Mills look as if he was next to Jesus, only to kill him, bury him and abandon his grave in the ***barred word***. Soon after his death, he was no more the best...... because Mahama became the best. These guys are simply VILE! They hate the truth and can kill for personal gains. Donkeys!
f well when you come to peace fm, your discourse changes. why? onaapo. Now whether Nana sniffs or douches, he is your president, no matter what you say. he goes down in history as the only or first prez who has won with landslide victory without any communist inferior tactics. onaaaapo
So what did Pratt say that was not true. Whilst chiding your acusers for challenging your thoughts about 1957, you were drawing insight from happenings in 1771 long before you were born. Ye kyiri kokoo aa yendi ne ma.
So upon second thought i keep on asking myself what was not true about what the president said. He chose to take the same history and speaks it as he wishes, some one can also take the same history and speak it to suit himself or herself, so what is this whole noise about the speech. When will Kwesi Pratt see something good in NPP. Everything ATTA MILLS and MAHAMA did were fine with him but there is everything wrong with KUFFOUR AND NANA ADDO. Some times is a shame to see how you are not principled.
