Leader of the United Front Party (UFP), Nana Agyenim Boateng, has described the lands and natural resources minister’s three-week ultimatum to illegal miners to halt their activities as government steps up the fight against illegal mining, popularly called ‘galamsey,’ as “a joke.”
Nana Agyenim Boateng said “it is a joke and lack of good leadership on the part of the government. They must meet the people and solve it amicably, he urged.
Lands and Natural Resources Minister, John Peter Amewu, last week issued a three-week ultimatum to illegal miners to halt their activities, stressing that all illegal miners who fail to stop their activities will face the full rigours of the law.
Nana Agyenim Boateng, also known as Gyataba, speaking on Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwnene on ways of fighting galamsey said: “if they go by force, they will fail. The approach should not be violent.”
He suggested that “they [the government] should use the military but if they use the Rambo style approach it will fail.”

Does this man call himself a of a political party in this country? These are some of the people for all you know are hiding behind these illegal miners. How many times haven't we as a country approached this people with all respect? And where has it results, have they stopped. I say where persuasion falls force must be applied. You know these people actually knows what they are doing is wrong but yet they are doing it cus no one is talking about it. And some of them too are sitting listening to the big guys like Himself (Nana Agyenim Boateng) and the likes. To instigate them to do it more cus the leaders of this country themselves disagree with each other all the time.I will beg them to rally round the Minister irrespective of how jovial his speech looks like too bring sanity in this country, they should think about the people of this country for once.
