Dr Otchere Addai-Mensah, acting Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences at the College of Health Sciences of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has declined President Akufo-Addo’s appointment as the Director of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Graphic Online has gathered.
The development followed criticisms by New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters that, Dr Addai-Mensah was someone who did not believe that Nana Akufo-Addo could lead the party to win Election 2016.
He is said to have exhibited a number of public disagreement with Nana Addo and the leadership of the NPP prior to the elections.
There have been a myriad of criticisms by NPP supporters since his appointment was announced last week.
On social media, screen shots of some of his statements in 2014, 2015 and 2016 indicating his disagreement and criticism of the NPP’s leadership have been re-shared a number of times since his appointment was announced.
The Assin Central Member of Parliament, Mr Kennedy Agyapong for instance in a radio interview on Kumasi based Hello FM said that Dr Addai-Mensah was someone who openly indicated that he did not believe in Nana Addo.
He said even though Addai-Mensah claimed he was an NPP man, when he appeared on radio, he professed to be neutral, and exhibited his disbelieve in Nana Addo.
To the NPP supporters, Dr Addai-Mensah who is a regular panelist on a number of radio programmes in Kumasi, on a number of occasions used “harsh words” for the NPP leadership.
Following the criticisms, Graphic Online gathers that Dr Addai-Mensah met President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday at the Flagstaff House where the issues of his disagreement, radio commentary and social media postings were discussed.
Dr Addai-Mensah reportedly explained that he stands by all those comments and postings and therefore said, if his appointment was going to be problematic, then he would decline it.

If we have such ***barred word*** calling himself a doctor, then Ghana indeed is in sinking ship. Look at him! This can never be categorized as bravely, this guy is the most ***barred word*** ***barred word*** Ghana has ever had as a medical doctor. He has now realized his foolishness, he has no choice than to say I stand by my words. Gyimifo)
Ofori Kingdom, I agree with you 100%
You criticized nana that he lacks leadership qualities. You said he was not a unifier, Addae mensah further suggested nana addo could not become a president. God showed nana addo mercy and grace to win a historic election with a historic gargantuan margin. Addae mensah knowing what you said and claiming that you are not just educated but principled, you should have declined the appointment offer from the onset. However you assume office, your record and heat is piled on you before you subsequently decline the job. To me it does not show you are principled but that you could be bought. I hope you did not resign from your former job. It would have been problematic
WHY SHOULD HE OR EVERYBODY TAKE UNSTABLE POLITICAL POSITION WHEN HE CAN ENJOY A STABLE ACADEMIC PORTFOLIO.
Fork Akufo Addo and his tiny prick.
Doctor has done well. It is good to stand up and talk when it is needed. Bad deeds doesn't suddenly become good just because of mere appointments.
is good he has step down. is a sign of braveness
People have to realise that we do not only need Yes men and fanatics to be part of the government, I salute independent minded people like this man ,Dr Arthur Kennedy and Dr Wireko Brobbey.Nana Addo has disappointed myself and many Ghanaians with his 110 ministerial appointments. there are many things that independent minded Ghanaians and Npp supporters d not agree with Nana Addo and there is nothing wrong with that. All these people do not hate Nana Addo but want to see Ghana do better.
Sometimes I don't understand some issues. Do people who make comments on radio and other media networks really mean what they say or do they have integrity to protect? If this man cares about his integrity he shouldn't have agreed on his nomination, let alone for it to be mentioned for people to refer him to his statements on Nana Addo before declining. You were definitely contacted before your name was mentioned. So you should have told Nana Addo that you don't believe in him so he should take his appointment. If the supporters had not complained, what would have happened?
Nana Akufo-Addo wo ye gyegye!!! Giving position to people who openly critized and lambasted you? You have shown your unifying attribute and deep maturity. May the LORD give you more years, strength and wisdom. Nyame nhyira wo piiii, wo ate!!!
