The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has entreated Ghanaians and leadership to use the Easter festivity to reflect on how to collectively work together to address the issue of illegal mining (galamsey).
Describing the menace as a “cruel destruction of our lands and rivers” in an Easter message, the CPP said, “we cannot mortgage our collective safety to our unbridle greed to mine gold everywhere.
“We definitely need to act timeously to address this albatross on our neck or risk killing ourselves,” the CPP’s message which was issued by national chairman, Prof. Edmund Nminyem Delle said.
Below is a copy of the message
EASTER MESSAGE TO GHANAIANS
The Convention People’s Party conveys it warmest felicitations to all Christians in Ghana and the world, on the occasion of the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The narrative of Christ’s death, passion and resurrection, teaches us the essence of obedience, endurance, perseverance, humility and tolerance to accept and do God’s will, which ultimately brings victory and peace.
The peace Christ shows the world during Easter, gives us the assurance that if we apply his gentle values of patience, prayer, and willingness to do the things that will promote the common good of humanity and serve God from our heart, we will progress as a society.
Undoubtedly, liberating ourselves from the combined effects of neo-colonisation, and the challenge of bad governance, corruption, greed and wanton dissipation of our resources, should be our concern, but what is more is to strive as patriotic people ready to stand firm, defend our nation, protect and preserve it for ourselves and for future generation.
The CPP certainly connects with Christ’s victorious resurrection from the dead and shares the believe that this Easter should symbolise the opportune time for Ghana’s authentic rebirth and true development in all spheres of her economy.
The ‘Galamsey’ menace
We entreat Ghanaians and our leaders to use this Easter festivity to reflect on how we can collectively work together to address the cruel destruction of our lands and rivers. We cannot mortgage our collective safety to our unbridle greed to mine gold everywhere. We definitely need to act timeously to address this albatross on our neck or risk killing ourselves.
The Convention People’s Party takes exception to the recent impunity demonstrated by the Delta Force in Kumasi and other vigilante groups in the wake of the NPP assuming the reins of government. We condemn the attacks on the Law Court and the danger it poses to the rule of law and the ultimate effect it has on our peace and stability. We urge the Government to take swift and urgent steps to ensure Law and Order in our country and nib the incident of vigilantism in the bud.
In same manner, we condemn the recent clashes in Agbogbloshie between aggrieved factions living in the area. We however, commend the security for its rapid response to forestall the peace, and call on people staying in the vicinity to be calm and conduct themselves peacefully. We entreat the factions to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies to ensure peace prevails.
As Christians mark the Easter festivities, let us reflect more about what we can do to collectively build this country and maintain peace and stability.
May we be reconciled to God and one another in order to live peacefully.
The CPP wish you all a blissful Easter and all the blessings that comes with it.
May God bless our homeland Ghana.
Signed
Prof. Edmund Nminyem Delle
(CPP National Chairman & Leader)

O, CPP!! Where were you during the NDC time when the Country's ecosystem and water bodies were being destroyed? You sat aloof and quiet and didn't say anything until the NPP government and other concerned bodies started talking, and all of a sudden you've found a voice 'to also say something'. Shame on you. You party is as dead as 'a ***barred word***'. Just leave Ghanaians alone. You are not serious, Dr. Delle's CPP.
It is time all Ghanians,Democrats and Patriots join Forces in unity to stop once and for all the menace of Galamsey and surface mining. If we collectively fail to stop this threat now within 20 years Ghana will become a "Dead Country like the Dead Sea.OUR RIVERS and Lakes would be poisoned to the extent that there will be no fish, the people and animals too will suffer from Heavy Mental poisoning. No one can survive buying bottled water fo washing, bathing and cooking.Let us remember King Solomon..his words about Riches and VANITY
