A former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman for Klottey Korley in the Greater Accra Region, Nii Noi Nortey, is pleading with President Nana Akufo-Addo and party executives to forgive him for snubbing the NPP and contesting the 2016 elections as an independent parliamentary candidate.
He said circumstances beyond his control compelled him to reject the advice of the then flagbearer Akufo Addo, former President John Kufuor and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the run-up to the 2016 elections.
Nii Noi Nortey contested in the elections after an acrimonious primary which saw him lose against lawyer Philip Addison.
He accused Lawyer Addison and some party executives for rigging the election after a second primary was called. Nii Noi Nortey had won the first primary overwhelmingly amidst a boycott from the other candidates over the election date.
But now, upon reflection, Nii Noi Nortey admitted to Citi News that, he made a big political mistake, and he called on all persons who intervened in the Klottey Korle impasse “to forgive my actions and they shouldn’t take it as an act of disobedience.”
Nii Noi Nortey also stressed his love for the party, and indicated his willingness to still serve the NPP.
“I joined the party because I loved the party and all that. I never joined having in mind that one day, I may go independent. It is regrettable and unfortunate. I love the party anytime, any day, I will still do my best and do whatever I have to do for the party,” he said.
Nii Noi Nortey recalled that “the ex-President, J.A. Kufuor invited me to his house. The current president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on several occasions had discussions on that with me, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice, we had discussions too.”
“There was a lot of politics going on that I wouldn’t want to delve into.”
The incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, polled 33,609 votes, the NPP’s Lawyer Addison had 29, 122, whereas the Independent Candidate, Nii Noi Nortey, polled a meager 3, 911 votes.

This guy would easily be beaten by most women because he is just a coward. Why do you apologize for sticking to your principles. What they did to you was wrong, you left, period. Your behavior now simply emphasizes why the party was right in selecting Addison. You don't come across as matured person. Can you imagine afoko, crabbe and kwabena coming to apologize for doing what they did. You may think npp is free now because they are in power, just wait and see what will happen to their government after a year. Grow up.
Now that NPP is in power "aben wo ha" you want come back after aiding for NDC to grab the seat. Yeeeye. Please forgive him.
You did so because of the money and the car you received from NDC just to divide the votes so that NDC can have the way. Now you have achieved your goal and what do you want again.
Nii Noi is not a true NPP man. He defied Kufuor, Nana Addo and other respectable members of the party because of his narrow personal interest. His principal aim was to prevent Lawyer Addison from winning the Klottey Korley seat and he succeeded but at the peril of his political career. Now he has seen his smoothness level. If he had not pursued that wicked agenda Addison would have been in parliament. Nii Noi believes that any body can go to parliament. How can a constituency chairman behave like that?
His only aim was to distoryAddison. Having achieved that that he has no other aim. Politics is about nos .Pls allow him to join the queue so that all wicked men will learn of their deeds.
We told you so, now you have made a ***barred word*** of youself. Tell me, who should cook for you to come and chop? It's your own lot, bear it.
once a turncoat, always one. if you had the party at heart, you'd have heeded to the advice of the elders and all those who prevailed upon you to let go but no. you thought you strode the constituency like the proverbial colossus, holding sway over all you see. if you had seen reason at that time, who knows, by now you could have been made an MCE or DCE to help advance the programs of the party and that may even have prepared you better for another shot at the MPship. now you see yyour smoothness level. as the Bible says,"pride goes before a fall". next time too!
He used to be part of the NPP fraternity but intransigence made him go astray. He wants to come back to the Elephant family, let's receive him as prodigal son because he has shown remorse for what he did. For him to be a member, he has to go through the process of registration. Once bitten twice shy
Lets accept him back afterall he has previously worked hard for the party. I wish others will do same and come back to where they belong so together we can prosecute Ghana must work again agenda
Why don't we forgive him? I left and form a party yet when i came back i was give Ghana at 50 to managed.
