Former Trade and Industry Minister in the erstwhile Mahama led National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, Dr. Ekow Spio-Garbrah says the founder of his party, former President Rawlings has his own right to express his view on the cause of the party’s defeat in the 2016 general elections.
According to him, former President Rawlings’ claims may be included in the fact findings of Kwesi Botchwey’s committee report but added it will be appropriate for the party hierarchy to wait for the final report of the committee before drawing conclusions on the cause of defeat.
The founder of the NDC said the party lost the 2016 elections because it betrayed the values of June 4.
He stated that if the blame game cannot be resolved conclusively, then parties have to step aside and allow for fresh leaders with solid integrity to provide the needed leadership.
“If we cannot get our claws off and allow for fresh leadership to emerge then we shall sink further,” he stated
Reacting to this on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Dr. Spio-Garbrah said Mr. Rawlings is entitled to his claims on the cause of NDC’s defeat in the 2016 elections but stressed that Kwesi Botchwey’s report may extend further to other causes of the party’s defeat in last year’s election.
“Matters of this nature in our party, Kwesi Botchwey’s Committee has been established to find answers and the cause of our defeat. It is possible the Committee’s report may support the claims of Rawlings that corruption and greed caused our defeat but as the report is not available, I will wait for the report,” he asserted.
He stressed that “it may be that the money meant for certain places for the campaign did not reach them and our communication team was poor or organization of polling stations management was also poor.”
He maintained that it is not one reason which may have caused the defeat of the NDC as former President Rawlings as narrowed it on only greed and corruption.
“There may be so many causes of our defeat in the election, as some of the Parliamentary candidates may also be contributory factors with their attitudes towards electorates. All I will say is that we have to wait for the report,” he urged.

Lots of wisdom out there. Well done Dr. Spioh Nice day
JJ, please why June 4 then if your own party that was given birth out of Jun 4 is more greedy and corrupt??? The family of the Generals need an apology from you. Repent yourself. The explanation you gave about the Abacha money doesn't wash. Had it not been the media we wouldn't have known. You hid the truth of the Abacha money from us. You and your wife are not clean when it come to probity and accountability. What did you tell Ghanaians when we had wanted to know how you were funding your kids education abroad after implementing the ***barred word*** JHS and SHS. Your answer was friends were funding their kids education. Can you look into our eyes now and tell us your answer was the truth. Your wife acquired quite a number of state assets illegally. Was that fair? I could go on and on about your double standards but will hold on for another time.
Ei! Spio. for a man who insists on using an honorary academic title (Dr)which by convention , recipients do not use, you have failed to address Prof. Kwesi Botchwey by his academically earned title. Please respect him wai! To even get a BCE certificate is not a joke oooooo.
Real NDC members and for that matter, the TOP hierarchy of the Party are aware of the reasons they lost the election massively. As at now they CANNOT eradicate the corruption Tag being put on them. coupled with their propaganda speeches and communications. Ghanaians are NOW aware and understand ALL their speeches and talkings.
The NDC loss may be attributed to many causes but basically Jerry John is right. The appalling corruption and the impunity was such that Ghanaians would have been f001s to vote for such a party. Mahama is by far the worst leader this country has ever had. Corrupt, inept, callous, ***barred word*** and totally amoral. The only ones who are saying the man should come back are the ones who benefited from his largesse. What can Mahama come back to do? Continue with the l00t1ng spree? The man is a pathological th1ef and so so disgustingly greedy.
WHILE THE NPP IS CAMPAIGNING STRICTLY ON ISSUES, OUR PARTY THE NDC AND OUR PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE WERE FIXATED ON FOISTING THE TAG OF A VIOLENT MAN ON NANA AT ALL COST, THINKING GHANAIANS WILL FALL FOR OUR STRATEGY OF NUMEROUS LIES AND FABRICATIONS . AS SAID BY OUR FOUNDER, THE NDC IS TOO CORRUPT AND IF WE DO NOT STOP THE CORRUPTION AND UNBRIDLED GREED COUPLED WITH LIES AND PROPAGANDA WE WILL BE IN OPPOSITION FOR A VERY LONG TIME. I THANK GOD FOR THE ACTION MOVEMENT THAT STANDS FOR THE TRUTH IN OUR BELOVED PARTY.
NDC is a dead party.... They will lose half the seats they are currently holding in parliament in the next election.
I WANT TO KNOW IF WHAT J.J. IS SAYING IS NOT THE FULL CAUSE WHAT IS HIS SPIO VERSE, NDC IS DYING SLOWLY AND SOON IT WILL BECOME LIKE CPP NO ONE IN THE PARTY CANNOT BE TRUSTED AGAIN PEOPLE WERE KILLED FOR NOTHING THIS IS THE FRUITS OF THE REVOLUTION.TILL TODAY SOME FAMILIES AND HOPES ARE CRYING.J.J. TAKE 65% OF THE BLAME
