The former boss of the Volta River Authority (VRA) Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobby has chided President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for surrendering to an emotional media coverage of the death of Major Maxwell Mahama.
According to Dr. Wereko-Brobby, the media coverage coerced the President to honor Mr. Mahama while neglecting other officers who died in similar circumstances.
The suspended NPP member also slammed the media describing it as unprofessional and irresponsible the manner in which it whipped up emotions of Ghanaians on the lynching of Major Mahama.
Dr. Wereko-Brobby who is leading a campaign for the state to give due recognition and attention to the family of Lance Corporal Robert Kumi Ackah, who was tragically shot by his own colleagues, said the President was pressured to act because of the attention the media gave to the military commander much to the neglect of the police officer.
Speaking in an interview with Starr News’ Regina Borley Bortey, Dr. Wereko-Brobby said it was wrong for government to have chosen to honour major Mahama and neglect the police officer who was also killed in the line of duty. “I resent the fact that the political class of this country did not treat two servicemen equally. Why would government go and issue GHC500, 000 and go over the top and visit families, justifiably, but I believe it should have been done equally.
“The media precipitated that whole thing and forced the government to respond…so [government] was forced by the media coverage and if the media had devoted even half of the kind of expression they put to the one I think government may have been forced to do the same thing.”

In fact my heart is calm and Dr brobbey has earn My love and respect this even,he did not speak like a politician buy a country man,you and the ex soldier i cant remember the name are the people resonable to speak on this matter ,soldiers do die in war and some their body is not recognized.so the government don't have a regulation for force people? Who die on duty the presidency is the last to be sentimental about this because what is good for the ......is also good for......
Tarzan! Kudos for this one. All die be die. Mahama die be die, policeman die be die. So treat all in the same way. Its time we have a police cemetary. Lets stop the ***barred word*** of naming something after a soldier who dies under questionable circumstances.
For once in a very long time i agree with you Dr. WEREKO BROBBEY...IT LOOKS A CASE OF DISCRIMINATION
DR, I support you 100%. You hit the nail on the right spot!
Dr Brobby wonders will never end.Master dnt ever disturb the President. After all u did not vote for him. ***barred word***.
The President is taken a knee jerk decisions. Is Mahama the only person who has been killed in Ghana? The Military and the Police have killed innocent people but nothing has been done. The Security Agencies in Ghana are UNPROFESSIONALS and the act Unprofessionaly.Afterall, Mahama did not act professionaly. How can a Military man go for jogging in jeans?. How can a Military man jogging stop to buy snails?
You can slam Nana Addo all you want, you wont get any job this time. You may choose to even join the NDC...... nobody cares. Tell Nyaho and Arthur K to join you in the crusade.
Most Ghanaians have been swayed by their emotions on this matter, we have stopped thinking. Nobody is asking the hard questions, what was the Military Officer doing 13km from his Base Camp alone? Military regulations permit a distance of 3km or 15 minutes jogging time from Base Camp. During an operation Military Personnel are supposed to move in groups, why was he alone? Have you ever seen American soldiers in Afghanistan or Iraq moving around in singles? Things don't add up, period.
Doc. I agree 1000% with you. Is a solder more human than the police. This is buuuushitttt
Wofa, for this de3, I fully support you. I think the family is demanding too much, even demanding that the Tema Motorway should be named after Mahama.I hope the government will not yield to that!
