Thugs associated with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), will find no comfort in the Akufo-Addo government, the President has said at the State House during the swearing-in ceremony of new Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo on Monday, 19 June.
"You'll find no shield in my government from the law," Nana Akufo-Addo told such hooligans, adding that recent mayhem by some NPP supporters in the Savelugu municipality of the Northern Region was "obviously unacceptable".
The thugs are bent on preventing the president's newly appointed Municipal Chief Executive (DCE), Hajia Ayishetu Seidu, from taking office because they claim she is not a member of the NPP.
There has been mayhem in the area since last week over the matter.
President Nana Akufo-Addo has, therefore, urged the police to crack down on all forms of hooliganism in the country irrespective of who is behind it and their political affiliation.
"I use this occasion to assure the country that my government will not shield anyone found to have broken the laws of this country. Application of the laws of the land must occur in the words of the judicial oath: without fear or favour, … or ill will, and, therefore, without recourse to the political or religious or ethnic affiliations of any citizen of the land. When you fall foul of the law, you must be dealt with accordingly and the law enforcement agencies, including the judiciary must ensure this is done. To persons perpetrating acts of lawlessness in the name of being members of the ruling party, let me make it clear to you that you will find no shield in my government from the law.
"Recent disturbances in Savelugu, for example, where allegedly a handful of party executives and youth, trying to prevent the Municipal Chief Executive who has been duly appointed with the requisite approval of the Municipal Assembly from working, are obviously unacceptable.
"I urge the police to do everything in their power to bring to book all those who fall foul of the law. We cannot have development which will bring jobs to our youth without order," he said.

Maxwell Eli you're absolutely right. The problem in Africa especially Ghana is the educated technocrats and politicians are taking advantage of the loopholes of the system and the laws. They would steal millions of dollars and invest the money and the interest or proceeds accrued are mostly equal to the original amount or the principal. And if they are apprehended. They are ask to refund without any penalty like 20+ years in imprisonment with hard labour and confiscate their assets associated with that very act committed. A country that has that system cannot developed because only the few educated ones will cheat the system. Unless we get very disciplined and strong leader who will look beyond the mere laws. Rather strategies strong laws, policies and procedures to block the loopholes. And punish those civil and public servants severely to serve as strong signal to deterred to those making their mind to indulge in such act. If these things are not measured and fight for. I can promise you that Ghana will continue to suffer especially the poor and less educated people. The President is a great and a man of integrity but he should act fast to save his government from those technocrats. However, those who embezzled state funds should be considered as pen robbers. And they should be treated the same manner as armed robbers because their actions are killing innocent citizens from good and quality education, health care, food and portable drinking water. Finally those citizens agitating against the president nominee would never do that if the economy is good and they have better job. They is an adage which goes, a devil fiind a job for an idle hands. The root caused of the problem need to be tackled first which is improving the lives of the people. I don't support hooliganism but something triggered it. And that trigger must be cure which is poverty and hopelessness among the citizens.
look at his head like stone. nkwasiasankwasiasem nkowaaa na aka you and your support. show me your friend and I will show you your character. ***barred word*** Taaaan!!!!!
Mr. President, prosecute members of the delta force who stormed the court in Kumasi and released their colleagues who were in lawful custody first. Stop being a false pretender. God is watching you.
Nana Addo, stop pretending the truth. If you arrest someone what next. Give instructions for the police to prosecute and admonish judges to jail them if found guilty. Mere arrest would not stop any problem, because you can turn around and covertly seek their release. Stop the lies.
May God bless you and grant you the grace, wisdom and the courage necessary to function as an effective president this country has ever had.
