Two former ministers under the John Mahama-led government have been cited as being a part of the reasons the National Democratic Congress lost the December 2016 general elections, a member of the Dr Kwesi Botchwey Committee, Dr. Ibrahim Zuberu, has revealed.
According to Dr Zuberu, it was established that the actions of former Finance Minister, Seth Terkper and former Communications Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah contributed to the defeat of the NDC in the election.
Giving highlights of aspects of the Kwesi Botchwey report to Onua FM Tuesday, Dr Zuberu said it emerged during their postmortem meetings at the grassroots level that the two refused to give out vital information to party communicators to counter the claims of the New Patriotic Party. “The problem was, people were keeping information to their chest instead of releasing those information for us to use. Asempa, I’ll tell you a personal experience I had with Seth Terkper,” Dr Zuberu Bright Kwesi Asempa . “Concerning issues of the economy, when you go to him [Terkper] for information, he won’t give it to you. He prefers to go and do it himself.
This was said in every constituency we visited, his name was mentioned throughout, especially [on] the issue with both Teacher Trainees and Nursing Trainees allowance.” He added: “Even things that we did not want to say boldly, these supporters said it openly, so yes Seth Terkper has been blamed greatly” Dr Zuberu claimed Dr Mahamadu Bawumia in the campaign period made a lot of false claims on the economy, but NDC communicators failed to effectively counter them because they lacked the right information to do that.
When asked whether it was because the former Finance Minister thought that the communicators lacked the experience and depth of knowledge to explain economic issues, Dr Zuberu said “What is it that Seth Terkper can say that somebody who understands economy cannot say or what is it that Monah Quartey can say that another person in the NDC who understands economy cannot say, please don’t go there”. In the case of former Communication Minister Dr. Omane Boamah, Dr. Ibrahim Zuberu explained that “for instance, Omane Boamah would say a lot of important things on Radio Gold, but he would never share those information with anyone. You can ask some of the panel who appear on the Radio Gold show”.
He claimed everywhere the committee went across the country in gathering information on the causes of the party’s defeat, the names of the two former ministers, particularly that of Seth Terkper came up. The NDC’s poor showing at the elections led to the party losing power to the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the NPP.
Some aggrieved supporters and members of the party accused and attacked some of the leadership and executives the party as being behind the defeat, something that triggered the formation of the Kwesi Botchwey Committee to look into. The Committee was also tasked to come up with recommendations on the way forward for the party. On Monday a report of the Committee was submitted to the executives but did not disclose details contained in the report except some eight recommendations.

Display of educated illiteracy once again by incompetent botwe's committee, the reason is simple, ur communicators were rude, even when they were making sense in their presentation, they neutralize it ride on the show with disrespect by their rude gestures n insults. I wonder why Fred agbenyo, ofosu kwakye n co were not mentioned
NDC are f.uuls, they should have long see big mouth Omane causing their defeat
The exercise of the committee is business as usual. No shaking whatsoever. Only six months in opposition and the NDC is wailing. Do not blame only Omane Boamah and Seth Tekper, include Okudzeto Ablakwa, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Asiedu Nketiah, Koku Anyidoho et al.
Dr. Botctwey is the wrong person to lead this committee. How can a former Mahamah appointee state the true facts behind NDC's humiliating lost? His committee gave every reason but the real truth behind NDC 2016 humiliating defeat. BORROW, INFLATE, CREATE, LOOT, SHARE, INCOMPETENT, CORRUPTION, DUBIOUS SOLE SOURCING, CORRUPT MAHAMAH FAMILY AND COVER-UPS policy is the main reason NDC lost. If NDC follow Dr. Botchwey committee recommendations, then, the party will be in opposition for a long time. This intellectual acrobatic feel good report is good for NPP. There might be a second shadow report starting the real facts to be shared among the leaders of NDC. This report is a joke.
Jazz.
This Kwesi Botwey report is just an academic exercise.... NDC simply lost the election due to gargantuan corruption and incompetence of John Dramani Mahama and his appointees. Do they need this report to find out why they lost? These NDC party must not rule our country again.
Hahaha so these people don't even know why they lost the election. If this is what the Botchwey people are saying then ndc will remain in opposition till Zuberu's great grandchildren reach retirement age. You lost because of incompetence and corruption. Peiod!
With folks like Dr. Zuberu explaining the NDC's defeat in the manner he is doing only goes to show how clueless the NDC hierarchy. First of all, Seth Terkper and ALL the NDC's gurus inability to respond effectively to Dr. Bawumia's charges is due to the fact that the NDC economic team and the communicators had been lying about the economy for 7 years, starting with the Mills administration. Dr. Bawumia's predictions of the problems the economy would face do to the NDC's policies all came true, so Dr. Bawumia DID NOT LIE. Second problem is the in his effort to shift blame from the Party leadership and the Party as a whole, people like Dr. Zuberu are continuing to perpetuate the falsehoods that brought the party down. NDC's loss of power is due purely to two factors, namely poor performance of the economy due primarily to poor policies and secondly to the rampant corruption coupled with blatant lying that was clear for ALL Ghanaians, except the most partisan NDC citizen, to see.
DOCTORAL DEGREES ARE ON SALE "DONKOMI" ON THE INTERNET. ANYONE, KOFI, AMA AND KWAKU CAN BUY PAYING US$5000.00 FOR IT. MANY GHANAIANS, BIG MEN INCLUDED HAVE PAID US$5000.00 TO BUY DOCTORAL DEGREES ON THE INTERNET AND SO IT IS NO SURPRISE THAT FAKE DR ZUBERU DOES NOT OOZE WISDOM AND INTELLIGENCE WHEN MAKING HIS STATEMENTS. THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUTH; NOT TWO, NOT THREE OR MORE. THERE IS JUST ONE TRUTH AND THAT IS WHAT DOCTOR BAWUMIA WAS STATING AND BASED ON DATA FROM THE IMF, WORLD BANK, BANK OF GHANA, AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK ETC. THE DATA DOES NOT LIE BECAUSE THE METHODOLOGY IS CHALLENGED AND SCRUTINIZED BY THESE SOURCES MENTIONED HERE, SO HOW CAN TEKPER AND BOAMAH HAVE ANYTHING ELSE WHICH CAN DEBUNK DR BAWUMIA'S STATEMENTS AND LECTURES BASED ON THE ONE TRUTH BASED ON SOUND DATA. TERPER AND BOAMAH DID NOT SAY ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY HAD NOTHING TO SAY TO CHALLENGE DR BAWUMIA'S TRUTHFUL STATEMENTS. TRUTH IS JUST ONE, FAKE DR. ZUBERU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For the life of me I cannot understand the logic of this political entity called NDC. Six months after the elections and the blame game still continues so at what point will they accept the fact that their attitude whilst in government contributed to their defeat therefore they are all equally responsible for their defeat. For example in this article Dr Ibrahim Zuberu asserts that Dr Bawumiah was making false claims yet Seth TerKper was not providing them with economic facts to counter what Bawumiah was saying. If such a statement was coming from an illiterate I will accept but for a person with a doctorate degree?? How on earth did he come by that degree without knowing the basics of research methodology to acquire accurate information or is it because he is too lazy to read and learn? All the economic facts that Bawumiah spoke about were no hidden secrets - Anyone who cared to read the various independent reports about the Ghanaian economy from Bank of Ghana, IMF and even the CIA will find all that information and many more. So stop the blame game, accept your failings, work hard to tidy up your party to make it acceptable to the Ghanaian public or forever remain in opposition and cry like babies who have lost their toys.
