The Brong Ahafo Regional Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popurlarly known as Abronye DC says he will resign from the party if the government goes ahead to implement the compulsory towing levy.
He said it is wrong for government to worsen the plight of Ghanaians; making their lives difficult instead of better, adding government needs to withdraw the towing levy because 'Ghanaians are already suffering.
Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia's' programme, Abronye DC said: "if you knew what goes on during Campaign, I don’t think you will implement it".
The vociferous NPP communicator said he and other party faithfuls are against the implementation of the towing levy and that they will advise themselves if it is implemented.
"I will resign from the party because Mr Siaw Agyapong, the owner of RSML is seeking to exercise undue advantage over the government which would lead the party back into opposition," he said.
Background
The Roads and Transport Committee of Parliament gave approval for the implementation of the controversial mandatory towing levy to be imposed on vehicle owners.
The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) introduced the service in order to rid the country’s roads of broken down vehicles that are abandoned and which cause accidents.
As part of the law, vehicle owners and motorcyclists will pay compulsory annual fees, tied to the acquisition of road worthy certificate, to cater for towing services.
Fees per year for both commercial and non-commercial vehicles, depending on tonnage, range from GHC 20 to GHC 200.
The NRSC awarded the contract to the Road Safety Management Limited (RSML), a subsidiary of the Jospong Group owned by Businessman Joseph Siaw Agyapong.

My first idea is that bad roads ruins vehicles, break most of the parts under the vehicle. So we must talk of our roads first, otherwise we are carrying basket to fetch water.Bad roads wear tyres, sometimes punch the tyres, the so called pot holes causse accidents and damage vehicles. So towing alone can't help. Always small cars can be push off the road, unless if there is no place to push the vehicle along the road. Light vehicles is not difficult to push off road. The trucks uses air lock, so you can't push, all the break locks unless you start it before the break releases. So the enforcement of safety triangles or the bushes or leaves as they do must be done immediately the vehicle breaks down. Those who refuse to do that must be charge. If you you put safety triangles and you are not there, it will be stolen within some minutes. Paying the levy is not acceptable.
Another id,Instead of doing the right thing and explaining to the people the reason you are weighing into your own fooooolishness. this is a National Security issue not an NPP CPP nor NDC problem.
Compulsory towing levy is a very ***barred word*** idea. Why should other motorists pay for someone's broken vehicle? Yes I fully support the idea that broken vehicles have to be towed to save lives on our roads however, the towing fee and other related expenses have to be paid by the vehicle's owner. The wisest thing to do is to give reasonable period of time (determined by the authorities) for the vehicle's owner to pay for the towing fee and all related expenses and as is done here in U.S.A. If the owner fails to pay to collect the vehicle at the end of the given period then the vehicle can be auctioned. The towing fee and all related expenses can then be deducted from the proceed and the remaining balance (if any) given to the vehicle owner.
I thought u people was saying Ghana was going to be like heaven. but you now admitting Ghanaians are suffering already.. Hmmm this politicians are full of hypocrites.
My Brother, you have our support. Thank God , the NPP guys are kicking against it. Abronye you are my man for the day
Ask Nana Addo what? The man was known to finance NDC. John Mahama openly praised him for his so-called business acumen. You don't have anything to show he backed Nana. But here you are saying a dummmmb-foooooolish thing like "ask nana how much he paid to fund his campaign". I will ask your mothher! The issue here is that the towing idea is bad for most of us and the idea of taxing people to fund a private monopoly makes it even more edddiotic. Is is a shame that Mahama openly praised such an assssssssshole. It is also edddidotic that the parliament and some NPP ministers in govt want to support it. Talk sense and add some evidence to show that sometimes your brains work - even if it is for a very short time!
The NRSC awarded the contract to the Road Safety Management Limited (RSML), a subsidiary of the Jospong Group owned by Businessman Joseph Siaw Agyapong. WHAT???
How many people own cars in Ghana that you people are acting as fuuulls because of tow levy. If you are kicking against this, then kick against galamsey fight too, because that would send you to opposition faster than tow levy. Many people don't own cars but many people feed on galamsey so kick against the fight rather than tow levy.
You think if he was and NDC financier they will go ahead with this. Ask nana addo how much he paid to fund his campaign.
I am glad to see that prominent members of the NPP party are NOT blindly following the government with this foooooooooolish decision to charge towing levy in the interest of an NDC funding private firm. The NPP must check the stuuuuppppidddity of Nana Addo's govt! If Nana does not want to listen, the party must openly chastise it in the interest of the people.
