Former Attorney General, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong has emphasized that Ghana’s victory in the maritime boundary dispute against neighbours Cote d’Ivoire was founded on the strong cooperation between her and the current Attorney General, as well as a team of local and international lawyers and experts.
The International Tribunal of the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) on Saturday, September 23, 2017 unanimously ruled that Ghana did not violate the rights of Cote d’Ivoire in exploring oil at the maritime boundary.
Political watchers say drawing on insights from the landmark ruling that went in favour of Ghana in the three-year-long Ghana/ Côte d’Ivoire maritime dispute, it will all be in the interest of the nation, if there should be tacit cooperation from the two major political parties-[ruling NPP, NDC] in the political space.
Such cases are rarely observed in democratic politics in sub-saharan Africa, but the very excellent collaboration between the two leaders in the country, vis a vis the maritime boundary dispute has earned the admiration of Ghanaians.
The former President, John Dramani Mahama has said Ghana owed its gratitude to President Nana Akufo-Addo and Attorney, General Gloria Akuffo for allowing the litigation to continue and for the wise decision in seeking the collaboration of the former Attorney General in pursuing the case.
“It shows clearly, what we can achieve together when Government works as a continuum,” he said.
But the former AG, under the Mahama administration, Marietta Brew Appiah-Opong doubts her full dedication on subsequent events, saying it is unlikely she’ll stretch her efforts in such regard going forward as a former AG because of her personal ambitions.
“We cannot collaborate on everything…I have to also go on with my life and she[Gloria Akuffo] will also take decisions as AG. So if its necessary I’m sure but the most important one is this particular case that we handled together” the former AG told Kasapa FM.

Madam Marietta shouldn't have said this, considering a lot respect she'd earned from collaborating with Madam Gloria with regard to this Maritime case. Gloria is known to be competent, humble, selfless, hardworking, dedicated and smart, though, it's absolutely needless to say this. It seems NDC doesn't have Ghana at heart.
But Mama Brew, Mrs Gloria Akoffu doesn't need to partner with you before she can discharge her duties. So you can go in peace.
U clearly don't like to serve Ghana. It's all political gimmicks for u. Pple forget that when the gov of the succeeds in something, it's to the benefit of the whole country. But I guess our typical politicians don't like that. They would rather with the other fails do they can come to power. Never about the country and its citizens, its about POWER!! Darkies, we've got serious issues
I am a Presbyterian,Marietta is also a Presbyterian. This statement of her is NOT Presbyterian. It is not necessary for Christ sake.
Thanks Maritha. I know Gloria is equally good and can handle the Attorney General's office
Ghanaians should stop fooling. What praises, commendation and glory do people who are employed and paid for work done? Those involved in this boundary case are employees of Ghana, including Mahama, and they did their work and get paid , what glory are they seeking? If Ghana has lost this case , our air waives would have been polluted with NDC members press conferences, advertising their ***barred word*** and foolishness, led by Mahama. In any case, this boundary thing is a clear case, and even lazy David Annan or Akummey can handle. Stop the ***barred word*** glory seeking and go to work.
Marietta and Gloria look very much alike. They appear to be like twins. i wish they can worked together, not only beyond the courts in Ghana but within the courts in Ghana to defend what is true, fair and just to promote the well being of the nation. All in Ghana need to be farsighted to work again what is corrupt and evil in our society. We need to be enlightened with the truth to suppress falsehood and propaganda.
Some Ghanaians are getting tired of Mahama and his people who just want to be heard. Madam, this case was clear an good case for Ghana. There is no way the Ivorian could have won this case. In any case if Ghana has lost this case Mahama and his gangster would have been celebrating by now. You would have heard them jumping from radio to radio blaming NPP for incompetence. Now all of them want to be heard.
Well done we are all proud of you two. Kudos good job////
WELL DONE GUYS- A GOOD LESSON FOR ALL POLITICIANS
