General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the government to render an unqualified apology to the erstwhile John Mahama administration for branding it “incompetent”.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia said Ghana could not have emerged victorious in the four-year-old maritime boundary dispute over ownership of oil fields with Cote D’Ivoire, without the input of competent lawyers in the Mahama government.
The International Tribunal on the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) on Saturday gave its ruling on the long drawn out maritime boundary dispute between Ghana and Ivory Coast, accepting Ghana’s arguments in the matter.
Ghana argued that the equidistance rule should be used in delimiting the maritime boundary between the two countries. The ruling ensured that Ghana retained the boundary that has its key oilfields, among them the Tweneboa, Enyira and Ntome (TEN) fields.
But after a four-year-old legal tussle, the Special Chamber said Ghana did not violate its neighbour’s sovereign right. The Chamber said Ivory Coast did not produce a resounding argument that, bilateral talks held over the matter were not meaningful.
But speaking on Adom FM Tuesday, Asiedu Nketia said the outcome of the protracted dispute has vindicated the NDC.
He could not fathom why the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) which claimed to have the competent men relied heavily on the former Attorney-General, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong and others for such a high-profile case.
This, Asiedu Nketia noted, proves the NPP's so-called competent men of women are just over-hyped.
General Mosquito as he is popularly called paid glowing tributes to late President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills and former President John Mahama for the various roles they played in securing the favourable.
He cited how the two leaders resisted pressure to withdraw the case and maintained support for the ITLOS process until the judges retired to write their judgments last year.
Asiedu Nketia said the NDC is proud to have played a leadership role in securing this legal victory and securing these important resources for the country.

Asiedu Nketsia should not forget that the ndc incompetence was deliberate and wickedness. And it can be as well be equated to being incompetence. Asiedu Nketsia knows the truth himself.
The 2016 defeat has sent this man off the cliff, especially after parading himself as a strategist in winning election. Pummeled and badly beaten, he cannot get over the humiliating defeat. What he is doing now is part of managing the humiliation and disgrace he sent the NDC through. Ghanaians must understand and empathize with him.
NDC WOULD HAVE LOST ITLOS. GOD IS HAPPY WITH NANA ADDO FREE SHS AND HE IS SUPPORTING IT WITH THE OIL MONEY. NDC COULD NOT HAVE WON THE CASEIN ANY WAY
Mr Asiedu Nketiah is going off too much this time. He get out of hand. He has to be call to order. He does not live upto mature person in the society at all. If we keep this people as our party leaders I wouldnt be surprise if we loose 2020 election
Any man who wears his wife's (female...no gay here) dress to an international conference and does not feel ashamed can say anything. Not surprised at all.....
This is a victory for Ghana. Mr Nketia please don't politicize it. Besides the president has not claimed the victory for himself. i remember him acknowledging all those who helped in the previous government to make this happen. kindly leave Ghanaians alone to enjoy our new gift of free SHS, nurses and Teachers training allowance and many more benefiting policies that are yet to come. Hold your peace.
As a Ghanaian and I know all over the world, people respect the elderly and as such go to them for advice whenever they are faced with a vital decision to take.As far as I'm concerned,I don't get anything sensible from Mr Asiedu Nkatiah's utterances (please forgive me if I'm sounding insulting). There are alot of politicians whose contributions to issues on board though partisan, they give out sensible and thought provoking contributions and by the end of their submission you will alot of knowledge to add to your.Example is Mr Ofosu Ampofo, Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan, Mr Allotey Jacob and many old. Can't the party heads sit him down and talk to him? We want to learn from the elderly and impart them to our children and the junior generations. Please Mr Asiedu Nketiah,I like you so much but please when you come on air or giving out something for public consumption, please let your speech show your stature and speak like an elderly Ghanaian bred stateman.Thank you.
So you now accept your incompetence, however, do not forget that the addition of the competent team produced the results.I reserve my further comments.
