The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Joseph Kofi Adda, says claims that the Wa Water Project was started under the erstwhile Mahama administration should be disregarded.
Mr. Adda says the project was the brainchild of the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration under President Kufour.
“This project started in 2008; a delegation including myself and current President Akufo went to the Far East and China to look for funds for this project.”
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper West Region has chided President Akufo-Addo for failing to give former President Mahama credit for the project which was commissioned on Monday.
President Akufo-Addo at the commissioning of the project on Monday, said, “it was in his (President Kufuor’s) time that the financing for this project was secured, as far back as 2008. But, unfortunately, after he left [office in 2008], it took five years under the NDC successor governments before the construction of the project began.”
President Akufo-Addo added that “God has his own way of doing things. A project that was started by Kufuor is going to be commissioned by Akufo-Addo. That is the way the Almighty works” he said.
But the NDC says the project was started by them under President Mahama. The party in a statement signed by the Upper West Regional Director of Communications, Issaku Issa Jerry, said “President Akufo Addo is deceiving Ghanaians to score cheap political points.”
He added that “President Akufo Addo and the NPP must provide evidence that the project started under Kufour.”
But speaking to Citi News, Joseph Kofi Adda said the NDC has no hand in the project.
“It’s surprising NDC wants to lay claim over this project. Where were they when we conceived the idea to provide the people of Wa with water.”
The $55.50 million water project at Jambusie, which was constructed with a facility from the Korean Exim Bank, will supply 3.3 million gallons of water per day to the 100,705 residents of Wa.
President Akufo-Addo urged residents of Wa to “look after the project and make sure you use the water with care. Turn off the taps [when not in use], continue to conserve water, and settle the little bills that would come, so that the project would continue to run and provide you with the service.”
The President commissioned the project on Monday as part of two-day tour of the region.

Nana addo paaaaaaaa, when will he and his son barwumia stop lying. They are messing up big time too early. It's not even an election year and you are lying like this, how about election year. Even a class one pupil would understand that if you left power in 2008, and a project was completed in 2017, when you have been out of power for eight consecutive years, you could have been the one who did that project. You just came to power, your own one district one project have not even started, so how can you claim ownership of this project done by the ndc government. Even you garbage FREE SHS was introduced last month, so how can you lie to Ghanaians that this is your project. Where are those religious leaders who claim they are looking for wise men. Their wise man is lying more than Satan.
They talk as if it is their own pocket money they are using. It is all of us, our money. So using our money to construct a project ... anyone can do it. It is no achievement to be gloating about. It is even a shame that 2017, people in a civilised country are talking of now getting potable water. Sh@me!!
Ghana politics is really sick.
This project was done by Mahama, I can not fantom why Nana and his NPP can't initiate a project of their own but rather choose to follow Mahama projects that they claimed during campaign never exist. Just google back and see what Mahama did about this project, until he was called projects commissioner, all the massive projects by Mahama are the same projects Nana is chasing. This tells you NPP has nothing to offer.
2008 was election year and NPP were voted out and if you only started the negotiations and NDC took over in 2009 and did all the issues related for you to come in 2017 to say NDC did not do anything when you just have done 9 months . This is turning into absurdity. Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources Come again.
I am matured to know and understand that there is no way that npp can within ten months of their stay in government start and complete this project, therefore it can't be their project. The fact that your commission a project does not make you the owner of the project. I just can't understand why Nana addo did not even acknowledge that the Mills mahama administration started and completed the project, but he is only commissioning. At least commend the past government for ensuring the project was not abandoned, even if you want to lie to Ghanaians that you started it, after all government is continum.
If NPP got the resources for the project and NDC did the work, what is the problem? NDC government could have blocked the project or send it to another place. Let's give credit to where it deserves.
