Former President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has said that his successor, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is having sleepless nights due to the numerous challenges facing the country.
He made this statement at the 50th-anniversary celebration of the Madina Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Trinity Parish.
Addressing the congregation, the former president said the challenges facing the leadership of the parish were nothing compared to the ones President Akufo-Addo is faced with.
“Leadership is not an easy thing. We must always pray for leaders. I’ve been there before and I know what it’s like. Sleepless nights. And I’m sure my successor is also having very sleepless nights. If you are a leader even of a small parish like this, the kinds of problems I’m sure Reverend Osiakwa has to handle are just a microcosm of the kinds of problems that President Nana Addo must be facing by now”, he said.
Mr. Mahama also admonished the congregation to display the highest form of respect to their leadership, whether they like the person or not.
“We must also always respect our leaders. Indeed, if you do not even like the personality in the position or in the office, you must show respect to the office, because you don’t know when you yourself will find yourself there. Or your son will find himself there, or your relative will find himself there, or even somebody you like will find himself there”, the ex-president advised.
He also kicked against the negative attitude of denigrating leaders since there was the possibility that they could receive similar treatment should they find themselves in leadership positions.
“If you have developed the culture of denigrating the office you will find that when you get there you have so denigrated the office that you cannot command the kind of respect that you also think you deserve,” he added.

Proffect Mahama. U will only ave sleepless night when you dont do your work well. Just like school, if dont like learning you will have sleepless night and at work if you are incompetent you will have sleepless night when issues arise. Incompetent Mahama
THIS GUY(MAHAMA) DOESNT DESERVE TO BE CALL A STATESMAN...APUUU GYIMEII WEI...
God is on control and shall President Nana Addo through
we told u NPP is a useeless govt. Nana Addo is a useleess jackasss. we told u. we chppped ghana money. But he cannot do anything because he is an old useeelesss fuuuuuuuuuul. We will do him like the way Tsikata did Kufuor. We will not go to jail. We will enjoy our stolllen money. And Ghanaians will lose faith in NPP by 2020. and NDC will come back to chop even more than ever. Stuuuuppppidddd NPP govt. Nkwassshiafuorrr
I think attorney general is a useeelesss woman. nana addo is also fooooooooooooolish for relying on a usseeeless woman. It is as if we still have the incompetent Mahama running the country disguised as an short, old bald man
why wont he have sleepless night,John Mahama knew the mess he has caused and knew definitely Nana Addo will have sleepless night to solve them, he will surely fix the corrupttt mess you left behind, because Nana Addo has the nation at heart.
So far so good for Akufo-Addo's administration but there have been some challenges and stupefying disappointments. A visit to Akyem-Abuakwa towns leaves one wondering if Akufo-Addo is really the president of Ghana. The much talked about University in Bunso hasn't taken off. Availability of cheap credit remains a dream. No hospital close as well equipped as LEKMA. Eastern regional airport hasn't taken off.
SO today Jon Mahama this reckless incompetent full after stilling our money is telling Ghanaians that he has got rid of Auntie Becky and now sleeping with Nana Addo and there fore knows the sleeping patterns of Nana Addo ; frankly !!!!!; this northner idiotic donkey and a stiller Jon Mahama should give us a break ; the full has has some mental problems and should go to Accra Mental hospital for some serious mental medical check up with DR Osei.
okay we hear. but your own ndc guys will deal with you. it is a matter of time
I agree there are a lot of challenges in leadership positions, but i am not sure our african leaders loose sleep over them or have any sleepless nights like the former pres is saying. who remembers tony blair or obama before they assume office through their rein. you could clearly see the toll these challenges had on them. compare this to rawlings, kuffour, mahama or obasanjo and goodluck.....
