Former President Mahama has touted the achievements of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), saying the party had over the years exhibited “strong commitment to strengthening” Ghana’s democracy and building a stable economy while in power.
The former President, in a statement posted on his Facebook page, further indicated that he is “convinced beyond any doubt” that the party “remains the most citizen-friendly and development-oriented political party in Ghana.”
John Mahama’s comments came as the country marked a year following the 2016 general elections which saw the NDC lose power in what is widely seen as the worst defeat for a sitting President in Ghana’s history.
Mr. Mahama recorded 44.40 percent of valid votes cast, losing to the New Patriotic Party’s Nana Akufo-Addo, who was endorsed by 53. 85 percent of the voting population.
Below is the full statement from President Mahama
One year on after the December 7, 2016 election, I salute all our executives, supporters and sympathisers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who worked tirelessly during the polls to achieve success for the party. While the outcome was not what we desired, let us thank the Almighty God for his bountiful blessings as we are enjoined to do in all circumstances.
As we have demonstrated in the period following the elections and a year after the polls, we are a Party that believes and has demonstrably exhibited our strong commitment to strengthening our country’s democratic credentials and building a peaceful and stable economy.
Let’s continue to use the opportunity we are presented with, to work hard and diligently towards the reorganization of our party as we prepare for the next elections in 2020.
I am convinced beyond any doubt, that our party, the NDC, remains the most citizen-friendly and development-oriented political party in Ghana and we must continue to work in the interest of the Ghanaian People.

Can somebody tell me one single person in the NDC who is honest? Na lie, lie!
Frankly; politics is a dishonest game full of non intelligent educated illiterates and losers and Jon Mahama is a sample of such a specimen just listen to Jon Mahama playing the patriotic card and demonstrating social credentials to full Ghanaians ; a classic northner thiff and a disgrace to society who did not even bother to consider education ; health and agriculture as his priority in government considering his background and his tribes men and women but rather Jon Mahama borrowed and spent like a drunken lotto winner in a bar buying drinks for everybody who was in the shop and even telling the bar girls to keep the change whilst Ghanaians suffered and told there were these non existent infracture edifices and influenced the building of a rest house in Bole his hometown ; he borrowed money and created the 'contracts economy' ; there was no creativity to create jobs for the youth ; what he rather did was to create the atmosphere to for young men to obtain visas to travel abroad on NDC tickets to suffer abroad ; he created a situation of joblessness whilst the youth travelled through the desert to Libya because they were told Ghana was no good ; they should rather go and hassle abroad and bring the cash whilst the NDC enjoyed ; today he has kept quiet about Ghanaians youth being sold in Libya ; Jon Mahama rather stole our monies and bought houses and sent his children abroad to study in Dubai; stiling was the order of the day ; still in government and you protected at the Glagstaff house ; his wife Lordina Maha was on the stilling rampage with the DKM racket ; his brother Alfred and Ibrahim Mahama were the Lords of the land with contracts been awarded to them everywhere ; party members who knew nothing about anything were being awarded contracts which they could not do but then sold them to other people for inflated prices thus creating huge deficits ; today the idiotic donkey fronm the north is telling Ghanaians how friendly the NDC party was because he was sharing stolen monies to persons like Akua Donkor and others.
Sir, you can't be serious. You lieerr, go away from us. Leave the Military land for peace to reign in Ghana
Citizen friendly and yet you couldn’t initiate a single social intervention programme to mitigate the suffering of the poor masses . You collapsed most of the pro-poor policies you inherited and went ahead to l@@t , st::£l and wreck the nation. Kromfor. You benefited from free education and yet you kicking against free school. Haba “enuio pibi” (my brother in Gonja) stop the hypocrisy and double standard. Ask for forgiveness for inflicting pain and suffering on the Ghanaian populace.
