A former NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for La Dadekotopon constituency, Nii Amasah Namoale says attempts to remove the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Madam Charlotte Osei from office will not affect him in any way.
Namoale who is considering to contest the La Dadekotopon seat again in 2020 was emphatic that “The votes I will get from my people in my constituency is more important to me than Charlotte Osei’s impeachment process.”
“Charlotte cannot change my votes if the people vote massively for me. Her impeachment will not affect my coat and shirt,” he said on NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’.
Tension has been mounting at the Commission after some workers sent a petition to the president accusing the Electoral Commissioner of some alleged impeachable offences.
The concerned staff claimed Madam Charlotte Osei fraudulently cancelled a contract awarded to Superlock Technologies Limited (STL), a company contracted to supply and manage Biometric Voter Registration machines (BVRs) and Biometric Voter Devices (BVDs).
They also alleged she single-handedly renegotiated the same contract with the vendor without the involvement of key members of the Commission, leading to the award of $21,999,592 contract.
Her action contradicted the Public Procurement Act (PPA), they said.
Madam Charlotte Osei has maintained the claims are “unfounded accusations", blaming her two deputies, Mrs Georgina Opoku-Amankwaah and Amadu Sulley for the petition.
But her denial did not stop the presidency from forwarding a copy of the petition to the Chief Justice as required by law and for possible impeachment proceedings to begin if a prima facie case is established.
On receiving the petition, the Chief Justice wrote to the EC Chair to respond to the allegations contained in the petition, which she did after a prima facie case was established against her.
According to her, after her official response to the allegations, she has neither heard from the Chief Justice nor officially been communicated to, only to receive a summon to appear before a committee that is likely to trigger her impeachment.

Ha ha; ma bro Ogyam, you have just confirmed my suspicion regarding the modus operandi of the NPP. You will agree with me that Nana Addo is hell-bent on removing Madam Charlotte Osei as the EC Chairperson. This was further confirmed by your more 1d10t1c and block - headed Obiri Buahen when he said it was time the NPP also packed the EC with their people once the Party is in power. Aren't you ashamed that out of a total number of 17 people who petitioned the President only 2 people who are reported to be drivers finally showed up ? Where are the 15 others ? Why were the names of the petitioners kept secret by the Presidency ? Disgraceful" . Your evil attempt at Charlotte Osei will finally crumble on your own heads. Finally, I thought as educated as you are you will be decorous in your comments in explaining your point - not knowing you head contains coconut juice. Come again. Ever ready.
For goodness sake, what do you have in mind that Charlotte was appointed to do for NDC? To rig elections for NDC? You are more i diotic than Namole. Does NDC pay Charlotte or we the taxpayers. I urge you to stop exposing your f olly here and reason like an educated person.
It appears this former MP is now running amok" threatening the very life and existence of his own Party NDC. What he started as a comic relief in his declaration to stand as a Presidential candidate has metamorphosed him into becoming a black sheep amongst his fold. His unguarded utterances of late have out of the way whilst his demeanour reflects a posture of one trying to stir up a revolt within his own party. You may ***barred word*** about Charlotte Osei today- but remember that in the unlikely event Charlotte Osei is removed, maybe your whole political ball game will change if Nana Addo appoints a new EC boss. A word to the wise.
