Today can report that, the national executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are not comfortable with the Monday’s High Court ruling on the Representation of the People Amendment Act, also known as the ROPAA law, 2006 (Act699).
The High Court in Accra, presided over by His Lordship Justice Anthony K. Yeboah, on Monday, December 18, 2017 ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to implement the law within 12 months.
Today gathered that, shortly after the ruling some national executives of the NDC, particularly, those in the various camps of the party’s presidential hopefuls went into a secret meeting to strategise on how to deal with the situation.
According to our sources, they fear that if the ROPAA is implemented it will make it difficult for whoever will lead the party in the 2020 elections to unseat the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“If we allow the EC to implement this animal called ROPAA, my brother (referring to this reporter), then NDC is doomed in 2020”, a source at former President Mahama’s camp said.
This became obvious yesterday when the National Organiser of the NDC, Kofi Adams who is believed to be a loyalist of former President John Dramani Mahama on Citi FM said, “the NDC will challenge the implementation of the ROPAA law, as ordered by the court”.
According to him, the difficulties that political parties face in mobilizing and campaigning within the shores of the country would be compounded by an implementation of the law.
“Of course the issues that we raised are still very relevant today.
The fact still remains that political parties registered in Ghana here still have challenges to monitor the political processes even within Ghana so now you are going to follow every Ghanaian everywhere.
Is the Electoral Commission going to now resource and support political parties to make sure that they reach everywhere there will be a Ghanaian to campaign and to track the process or in other words to present party agents? We still insist that the law as it is, is very difficult to implement”, he averred.
Despite Mr. Adams’ concerns, the USA Branch Acting Organiser, Issa Balla Saeed, told journalists “both the party and the Ghanaian community are happy about the judgment”.
“The NPP members in particular and Ghanaians in general were very excited about this. I should say this has been out there for some time during Kufuor’s administration. Both NPP and Ghanaians in general are happy about the judgment.”, he said.

Ghanaba, do you understand the whole thing. This time for the ndc to carry Togolese from Togo to come and vote in Ghana for the ndc they've been giving the chance to vote in Togo so if you are not a Ghanaian and you go to the embassy to vote you will be caught and you know how the Togolese French laws work so they wouldn't dare. The border points also wouldn't be left out and I tell you the Togolese government too wouldn't lose guard for his people to come and vote and choose ndc to come and overthrow his government so ndc is finished.2ndly you can't vote in Ghana without the Ghana card which will be impossible for them to have one in Togo. Ndc will scream and yell their lungs out it will never help them, Ghana must be built and Ghana must move forward. We don't need ndc to dictate the destiny of Ghanaians but Ghanaians must decide themselves through good interventions which will lead them to better their lives. American president doesn't dictate the lives of their citizens but roll out good policies for their people to take advantage, they don't destroy any intenvention but add or bring much better one unlike ndc who destroy but don't build and don't add nothing to help the people but use the people to help themselves , I pity those who vote for them.
With the implementation of this law,the Ghanaians in Togo who have been a bone of contention during election time can now vote without any hindrance. As usual that phrase " it cannot be done" has started circulating. Iam beginning to believe that the NPP people are smarter than the NDC. This ROPAA thing has been in existence for about 11 years now out of which NDC has taken 8 years of it, couldn't you people have done anything about this to your favour as some of you are saying it will be in favour of the NPP? If Iam not mistaken,it seems most of our electoral reforms were instigated by the NPP,does it mean that when you were in power you were so occupied of what you will get and your rigging machinery that you never thought you would lose power? Now whether you oppose it or not these people are going to implement this, and would do it according to law that you can't do anything than to go by it.
Mmmm! Is it now not the legitimization of the 70,000+ voters in Togo?? Asem Beba dabi
