President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has indicated that his administration has been able to pay ‘half of arrears’ inherited from the erstwhile Mahama administration and is "current" on its administration's "obligations to statutory funds".
"We have increased our international reserves, maintained relative exchange rate stability, reduced the debt to GDP ratio and the rate of debt accumulation, we have paid almost half of arrears inherited, and, crucially, we are current on obligations to statutory funds...," he indicated.
He made this known during the presentation of his second state of the Nations Address, Thursday in accordance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution.
President Akufo Addo who reiterated that his administration inherited a bankrupt economy said through the assistance of the Economic management team led by vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, the economy is taking shape.
"I am glad to be able to report that the Economic Management Team, under the stellar leadership of the strong, brilliant economist, Vice President Mahamadu Bawumia, has risen to the challenge, and the hard work is beginning to show positive results," Nana Addo said.
“We have reduced taxes, we are bringing down inflation and interest rates, economic growth is increasing, from the alarming 3.6% at December 2016, to 7.9% in our first year, and the indications are that it will be even better this year. We have increased our international reserves, maintained relative exchange rate stability, reduced the debt to GDP ratio and the rate of debt accumulation, we have paid almost half of arrears inherited, and, crucially, we are current on obligations to statutory funds...We have restored teacher and nursing training allowances".
“We have doubled the capitation grant, and, to confound the skeptics and professional naysayers, we have implemented Free Senior High School education. It has enabled 90,000 more students gain access to Senior High School education, in 2017, than in 2016” he added.

we made a brilliant choice. my children are now going to school free. it is a complete dream. i have so much money. i sleep with fan now that the weather is hot. we have got to see where we are coming from. it was darkness for more that 3days in a row. we have to celebrate Nana for the wonderful things he is doing in the first year. it is easy to say that the economy is recovering well. there is so much energy than expected.
Too many Ghanaians commenting heresuch as ttt are naive and shortsighted. They just don't get what Nana is doing. NPP has a plan to build the fundamentals and improved the nations. If you only expect immediate benefits like your rent reduced or petrol, electricity or gas prices go down immediately you are ***barred word***. Rather improve the overall economy and these things will come come down.
Though SONA revealed some commendable achievements in some sectors of the economy, I think the part on the Housing situation in the country is very disappointing. How can the President ignore the issue of exorbitant rent advances being charged by landlords in the country. What is the minister of works and housing Atta Kyea doing about this. If the President is serious about fighting corruption among civil servants in the country, then the President should direct the Minister to come with pragmatic solutions to halt this.Mr.President the rent advance is killing the ordinary Ghanaian. Help!
What did your serious John Ford Mahama, achieve. Even the cause of the death of the former president he couldnt disclose. Babies with sharp teeth
Which ghanian has employed you to be his spoke person, by the use the word I not ghanians. HYP0CR1TE NDC members in PPP skin.
This Akufo ado government is not serious, he covers up corruptions from his ministers and npp boys. I cant imagine with 110 ministers, what are they doing? they doing chop-chop and talk-talk with big grammars and phonetic. speaking phonetic will not bring the fuel down and let people live well without suffering. Akufo and his people must wake up!
GHANA GETS WHAT THEY WANTED BY VOTING FOR THEM.JUST ONE YEAR IN OFFICE,GHANAIANS ARE TIRED OF YOUR GOVT. PEOPLE ARE DEMOSTRATING AGAINST YOUR GOVT IN JUST A YEAR OF NPP GOVERNANCE, WHAT A PITY. BY THE TIME U GET TO 2 TO 3 YEARS OF NPP ADMINISTRATION, WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN?? LESS THAN 2 YEARS WE ARE TIRED OF THE WAY YOU HANDLE ECONOMY AND CORRUPTIONS AND SECURITY.
THIS NPP PRESIDENT AND HIS CO-HOTS ARE COMPLETELY JOKERS, YOU SEE HE DIDN'T EVEN TALK ABOUT FUEL PRICES. HE IS A JOKER.GHANAIAN ARE SUFFERING WITH HARD TIMES. ONLY TALK TALK AND CORRUPTIONS GALORE AND NO ACTION.
