Deputy General Secretary in charge of operations of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho has stated that the NDC as a party is prepared to take possession and make money off the John Evans Atta Mills Presidential Library in Cape Coast.
“It is a national asset, but if Government says for political reasons they don’t want it, no problem. We will take our thing, we will run it, we will make money, it is a cash cow, we will milk it and make money, and people will come,” Koku Anyidoho said on 3FM’s Sunrise show.
Koku Anyidoho’s position comes on the back of comments made by Central Regional Minister, Kwamena Duncan in an interview with the Daily Graphic that the library facility is private; hence government cannot release funds to support it.
“This facility is purely a private enterprise to immortalize President Mills, so government cannot commit funds to its running,” the Central Regional Minister told Timothy Gobah of the Daily Graphic.
Addressing the issue, Koku Anyidoho said the facility was built to serve as a reference point for tourists among other educational reasons.
“The library is a cash cow; it was deliberately sighted close to the Cape Coast Castle so that the scores of tourists that come to the castle will also just walk into the library if it’s functioning to read about the history of Ghana, and get to know about the late President Mills.”
Koku Anyidoho accused Government of politicizing the issue by refusing to take care of the facility.
“It will be one of the cardinal sins that we will commit as a country, especially if for political reasons, and so we will run it.”
According to the NDC Deputy General Secretary, government has a responsibility to preserve the facility although it was constructed under a private initiative.
“That edifice was handed over to the state, Look at the scores of Secondary Schools around that place; it will be sacrilegious to watch that thing to rot away,” Mr. Anyidoho said.
He described as unfortunate the state of the Atta Mills Library, adding the library was built with a good intent.
“It is extremely sad and unfortunate. That library facility was built as a first class and world class center for academic excellence, and it is not your everyday community library.
Koku Anyidoho also condemned the posturing of the Central Regional Minister Kwamena Duncan to not pay attention to the facility.
“It is sad to listen to this current Regional Minister for Central Region openly shout that there is no money, and that Government will not put any money into the project.”
The John Evans Atta Mills Library which has a 100-capacity auditorium was inaugurated by former President John Dramani Mahama in July 2016 in commemoration of the anniversary of the late President Mills.

How can a library be a cash cow. Libraries all over the world are meant to offer intellectual and educational assistance to the public. Libraries are places that people can go and relax, pick a book and read. Libraries are places where librarians can offer assistance to the people who are in search of publications and cannot find it themselves. For this man to say the library is a cash cow is mind numbing. So in Ghana, everything is about money. This tells you how the npp and the ndc have lost their minds. Inspite of their ***barred word*** MACHINE, these guys will do anything to drain the swamp from the public purse. It is a damn shame for this guy to speak like that. As for the UCC authorities, l do not understand the bro ha ha. Take over the damn library, find money to complete it to become useful to students and the public. This chicken and colonial mentality is what is holding Africans back. Lack of leadership and clear thinkers in charge of public institutions is killing the continent.
KOKU AND HIS CORRUP.T NDC SHOULD MAKE ALL THE MONEY FROM THEIR CASHCOW AND ENJOY IT ALONE. NO ONE WILL BE SORRY TO SEE NDC MAKE MONEY, BECAUSE AFTER ALL SAID AND DONE, NDC ONLY BELIEVES IN MAKING MONEY BY FAIR OR FOUL MEANS. LET THENM MAKE THEIR MONEY FROM THEIR CASHCOW, WHO CARE??????
Is he the first president if Ghana?or ndc just dint believe in themselves they are Ghanaians so want to be relevant in any st*pid thing, what is the meaning of this library as a national asset?did Ghanaians ask for that and who did the ndc consult they were building a library for Prof. Mills as a national asset. You people think you matter in Ghana or you think by so doing Central region will fall for you?ndc always want to use the Central region for their political advantage and I don't understand why? They killed the man for sympathy votes and then neglected his tomb to deteriorate and then went to Cape Coast to build a library before the elections and when the people voted against them the abandoned the building and now telling the government to use tax payers money to found a project they themselves don't understand the use of it and telling Ghanaians it's a national asset for education, since when did they think of education in Ghana and how did they help with the education sector? Eeeeeiii! In fact desperation leads to depression and ***barred word***! Even common chalk you couldn't supply Ghana schools how much more books for a library and they think bringing in the government to fund their library in the name of the state they were wicked to would create some controversy and cause disaffection for the government but that one too didn't work. I tell them their 1000 plans and tartics they are using to get power will never work, Ghanaians are discerning. If you couldn't provide anything meaningful to create jobs for the good people of the Cape Coast what will Atta Mills library do to them? Ndc are really sick people, the wee and akpeteshie are having too much effect in their brains. NPP, will never do that, they will never build a library for their past president and ask ndc government to fund it, it's disgusting koraa! When ndc didn't give Papa Kuffuor what was due him nobody from the NPP complained neither Papa Kuffuor himself. It is better for Ghanaians to look at the backgrounds of people who present themselves as leaders. Ndc thought they could make a good meat out of that when even the widow of the good professor was left at the mercy of the weather by the ndc during their time. Mo ma yen dwen! Everything in the eyes of the ndc is how to win election never how to govern the people to their satisfaction, never their vision for the country, they criticize every intervention but never bring out solution or clue. The time that elections were won on lies and propaganda are gone, we are in a new Era of what you can do for the nation not what the nation can do for you, ndc bring out your ideas and vision and stop Atta Mills library politics since it won't win votes.
why was it published yesterday that is has been shut? what were they thinking? I always say it, strategic thinking is black man problem. Black man hates to think and achieve results
Does he understand what cash cow really means?
KOKU, RAWLINGS AND KUFUOR ALSO HAVE PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARIES AND GOVT DOESN'T FUND THEM. THEY ARE ALL PRIVATE INITIATIVES AND THEY REMAIN SO. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH THE LIBRARY....LACK OF BOOKS, STRUCTURAL DEFECTS, MANAGEMENT PROBLEMS OR WHAT?? WHEN NDC COMMISSIONED IT IN JULY 2016, WAS IT STUCK WITH ADEQUATE BOOKS AND OTHER NECESSARY EQUIPMENT OR FACILITIES OR WAS IT THE USUAL ELECTION PERIOD TAPE-CUTTING COMMISSIONING OF PROJECTS EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT COMPLETE? LOOK AT THE STATE NDC LEFT ASOMDWEE PARK IN OSU ....INCREDIBLE NDC!!! NOW THAT YOU HAVE THE COW THAT IS STRATEGICALLY SITED, MILK IT TO PROSPERITY, KOKU. DON'T ***barred word*** AGAIN.
Central Region enemies of their own progress. Even if its a private entity it was built for use to benefit the numerous educational institutions in the regional capital. What prevents the Regional minister and the traditional leaders to join heads together to make sure that important edifice is kept and maintained. Let the Ashantis and BA's get this facility in their region and see how the traditional leaders and the people would embrace and take care of it. As for central region paaa , well, i rest my case.
Are you people stupiiiiiiiiiid or your party affiliation is encouraging you guys to make these comments. A library that is suppose to enhance education and you are playing politics with it. You guys are ***barred word*** people.
***barred word***, But why didn't the NDC support it while in office?
MR COMFORTABLE LEAD, WHO CARES???
