Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has 'attacked' former President John Mahama for wading into claims that the NPP government intends to increase VAT in the upcoming mid-year budget review.
In a tweet, Mahama said “The Ghanaian business sector has never experienced such difficult times in the history of the 4th Republic. Akufo-Addo’s proposed new taxes would cripple businesses further and also defeat his much-touted mantra of from taxation to production.”
This was after a report by a pro-NPP newspaper, The New Statesman, suggested that government may announce an increase in the VAT and the National Insurance Levy in the Mid-Year Budget Review.
However Gabby disagrees with the former President and has asked him to “shush” because the Akufo-Addo administration has been kind to him.
“Certainly, the reckless way the NDC ran down the economy in 8yrs (lest we forget), called for creative and intelligent measures to satisfy three things: manage the debt crisis; keep the state machinery running and; deliver on your own promises. The Akufo-Addo government found a way in 2017, and will continue to find ways that will keep faith with the people of Ghana. Be in no doubt. And, please, can somebody out there tell John Mahama to shush! It is not his fault, though. The NPP has been kind to him on the havoc he caused to the economy,” Gabby wrote on Facebook.

So, NDC commentators can not write without insult? What's this? Everything from ndc commenters are insults. I don't blame you ndc guys. That is what you've been trained to do. I don't think you read before you comment. Do you know that when Mahama and NDC came to power in 2009, It took them 2years before they could stabilize the cedi. Do you remember Senchi? Where they went to spend Ghana's money with so called financial experts and parties with Akua Donkor wasting the resources of Ghana? They should be charged for causing financial lose to the state for going to waste the meagre resources and time of Ghanaians. Mahama and NDC should not think Ghanaians have no brains. Because of JSS NDC PARTY THINK GHANAIANS CAN'T THINK.
When it coming, it will be doing!!! You came in calling your predecessor armed robber! Incompetent!! Wasting resources.....With your Mmbutumbaza Super Incompetent self acclaimed righteous economist who knows next to nothing but talk, talk... claiming there is money in here and that when they come they would not borrow money.....Guess the borrowing going on now with our debt increasing is being done Bawumia's twin brother call Mmbutumbanza Borrowmia!!! You came calling some taxes nuisance taxes, restoring allowances, reducing other taxes!!! I knew a day like this would certainly come as revenue generation would not and cannot support these gestures!!! Even a class one pupil will definitely know that, if you spend money without being able to generate enough, you cannot get the money much less to even save some!!! Now it is very difficult to restore those nuisance taxes and cancel the allowances but seeking to increase VAT!!! What is the essence or who are you trying to deceive? If you take away nuisance taxes and increase VAT, is it not the same payer? Its almost 2 years now, no significant developmental project or anything tangible to show for all the "nuisance loans" you have gone in for!! It is very unfortunate that someone like Gabby Otchere Darko will turn a blind eye on all the above and still have the guts to tell a whole ex-president to "shush". You guys think power is forever, the very way NDC misbehaved is the same way you these NPP guys are... I guess politicians don't learn. Just keep towing the same line, very soon you will be the ones on the other side!!!
Increase in VAT to buy V8 for Nana Addo"s numerous Ministers and side chicks. pay huge salaries and fat allowances for bloated 110 ministers. When your agriculture sector the real sector of your economy, is in the negative territory in terms of growth, you don't expect to see a turn around in less than two years. When your finances have been soooo badly managed to the extent you have gone to invite the IMF to provide a bailout, technical expertise and confidence to your economy with all their cutthroat austerity measures which further constricts your ability to grow your economy, you don't expect to fix that in less than 2 years. When your health sector is soooo messed up to the extent, you have to drive a sitting President of this country to the maternity ward of a hospital, with the health sector workers, striking every day, nurses and other auxiliary staff, made redundant, cushions for their training yanked from underneath them, all of which further depresses the quality of healthcare delivery in the country, you don't expect it to be resolved in 2 years. When corruption has soooo collapsed the country, to the extent, almost 90-95% of revenue streams are used to service debt, which was looted, instead of being intelligently and judiciously used for the purposes for which it was contracted, with the looted funds sitting out there is assets and accounts, you don't expect that to be fixed in 2 years. When your environment, water bodies and land is sooooo degraded to the extent, the water you drink is as turbid as anything could be, necessitating more funds to treat it, etc, etc, you don't expect it to be fixed in 2 years. And the list goes on and on and on. Ghana and Ghanaians as well as Africa, have great hope in the administration of the Akufo Addo gov't, and the bold, resolute and robust steps, it has taken and continues to take, and the solid path it has taken to deliver on progress and prosperity for the people of Ghana, and are totally and fully convinced consistency is what would deliver the gains so far chalked and would reward the Akufo Addo NPP political party with a consistent platform for the next 50 years to deliver on the great agenda of Ghana and by extension, Africa. My two cents on an article on Ghanaweb about Manasseh Azure claiming many Ghanaians are losing hope in Akufo Addo which I could not comment on but have put it here.
What is this thieef saying ? If not Ghana @50 would you be fat like this ? We know your likes .... These guys are such a hell of disappointments to Ghana. The stealing you're deeply rooted in will be exposed soon.
Tell us one thing NPP did to solve domsor blockhead. If you don't have your fact don't comment.
